Problem.... advise needed

Something that should have been done BEFORE the purchase.

Possibly. Not something that was leaking from the boot at the time and I didn't open up the power steering fluid to check the level. Not something that is very noticable laying under the truck which is what I did mainly checking the frame.

 

Jesus, a lot of dick responses on this thread. Maybe we can help a brother out without all the nastiness.

But again - forget the lift. Fix your mechanical issues before tending to cosmetic stuff. You mentioned taking it to a dealer. They are going to present you with a very long list of things to fix, some likely warranted and others not. Find a good independent repair shop. Forget the dealer.

 

Yeah I guess that's going to have to be the plan unfortunately. This is my only time off for a few weeks and wanted to get it put on. Hopefully I can figure it out and still get it done. Just something I don't have much time to deal with...was struggling to just find a few hours to mess with the suspension. Just hate trusting the dealer with this sort of thing.

You could also have an oil leak from the timing chain cover. Common on the early 2nd gens and I'm not sure what year they ironed out that issue.

 

You can put some uv tracer dye in your power steering, drive it for a while then get a black light and the yellow glasses and see where it's coming from.

Just my $0.02 here, this is my advice, but as others have already stated, get whatever it is that's causing that ugly mess down there cleaned up and fixed.

Once done then press on with whatever else you plan on doing to your truck. Leaving it is only going to cause you bigger problems.

Start off by getting a couple of cans of this stuff, works wonders, and go to the car wash (you really don't want to do this on your driveway!)
