Is the piece I've been missing that the cams only work horizontally, not vertically?

Sounds like it. The cam sits in a Horizontal slot in the frame mounts. The bolt goes through the center of the control arm bushings. When the Cam(big offset circle) is vertical it has 0 effect on the control arm, when it is turned it pushes the control arm in towards the engine or out away from the engine.

That makes more sense. Funny how things get set in your mind and it takes a dope slap to shake them out. I always thought they would also turn to adjust caster but now it makes sense why alignments can't put back caster. :frusty:

Thank you! They came out and tightened it down in the parking lot where I work. He then took it back to the shop to put it back on the machine to make sure the alignment was still ok, since it had slipped.

    Thanks for the info!

    What they said,

Glad to hear the shop is correcting the problem. I make sure every time i get an alignment that the tech torques them down properly.

Got the truck back, now I will go check all the torques and give it a test drive on lunch. Thanks everyone for the information and help!

    And?

So to further add content to this thread, maybe one of you guys can explain how they move the wheels forward in the wells. I would assume shorten the front, extended the back, correct the toe by adjusting the tie rods. My uppers (light racing) can adjust camber and castor.

That's a little hard to understand but yes. You pull in the front adjuster and push out the lower adjuster to effectively point the LCA forward (positive Caster), and the opposite for pointing the LCA rearward (negative Caster). The Camber is changed with the same adjusters so that is why it's difficult/impossible to get alignment back in spec when you lift without new UCAs with added Caster/Camber built in or adjustments added to them.

Fixed the problem I was having! However, it almost seems like the "slam down" is back. I have a theory about this, the cam tab is still lower than before by about half an inch. I am wondering if that is lowering the LCA which is give the shock less travel inside on the way down and its now hitting the stop inside the shock again. I am very frustrated about this because it was riding so much better before the alignment and before it slipped after the alignment. I think I am going to take it BACK to the shop and see if I can get them to raise that cam tab back to the original position and align from there.

The LCA cannot raise or lower by way of the adjuster cam.

Had an alignment done after I put in some billies + aal. Right after the alignment lots of popping, creaking, etc. Thought it might settle out over time. I had specifically asked them to check all the main suspension bolts and torque them to factory settings since I had messed with it, they confirmed they did. I checked the LCA bolts, they were at around 20ft pounds torque, not 100 like they should be. Torqued them up and all the noises are gone.
