2016 DC. I'm out of my warranty mileage so what's the actual process to drop the rear part of the headliner? See lots of posts but haven't seen any instructions.

Or would you just NEATLY tape around the light and smear a beautiful, perfectly laid bead of black silicone around the outer edge (outside) and call it a day?

My work schedule makes dealership visits difficult and my inability to deal with bullshit makes dealer visits almost impossible...but if you think they'll actually warranty it...after the warranty period, I suppose I will give it a shot.

    Forgive the typos; iDevice.

Fixed it. Can't expect help if I can't even manage to communicate well! Thanks, bro.

If the leaking 3rd Brake Lights are under a recall it would not matter if you were past warranty.

I was under the impression it was just a TSB and not a recall. Anyone confirm otherwise?

I honestly thought there was a recall on it but maybe I am wrong, you could always plug your VIN # in at Toyota's Website and see if anything comes up.

I just put silicone around it, same as I had to do on my second gen when it started leaking. Dropping the headliner is a paint in the ass

Have to reapply every so often or one and done? Lots of heat here in Tennessee. Lots of rain, too.

I had it on the 2nd gen for a few years and no issues after that so hard to say for long. RTV silicone lasts a long time though since you can use it to make gaskets. Never had problems in NC, moved to FL and that joker started leaking like 6 months later (and clearcoat went on roof and hood). Unless water gets in from the light itself (cracked housing or something), the silicone will work and then if you ever need to put more on, its another $4 (extra will definitely be all dried out by the time you need it again).
