I went through the install for the anytime backup camera with front camera and ran into a problem. When selecting front camera, only the rear camera displays, and when selecting the rear camera (either though the switch or selecting reverse) it would display a black screen. I saw in previous threads that some people had grounding issues, so I checked my grounding. I noticed when I disconnected my ground wire (inside the truck), the front camera would display correctly, but the rear camera would still show black.

    To simplify:
    Grounded:
Switch in front position: Backup camera displayed
Switch in rear position: Black screen
    Not grounded:
Switch in front position: Front Camera displayed
Switch in rear position: Black screen

Could it be a bad relay? Did I mess up the wiring in some way? I would appreciate any troubleshooting tips. Thanks in advance!

If you notice the relay switches VIDEO.
The switch provides Reverse input in order to view rear or front at anytime and signal to relay to switch camera.

Right, so I think the relay is "working" when it is properly grounded, however the front position of the switch displays the rear camera video, but when I disconnect the ground (disabling the relay), the front camera displays properly with the front switch, but the backup camera displays a black screen. With both, the rear camera does not display when the switch is in the rear position or when in reverse.

    Both?
The rear camera should display when the switch is in the "off" position. Can you confirm it does that?

The rear camera does not display when the truck is in reverse and the switch is off, whether it is grounded or not. A black screen displays.

If you have the HU removed still, remove the VIDEO harness and connect vehicle harness back. Then verify you get rear rear view when in reverse.

Yes it does still work if you plug the reverse camera directly into the head unit

So I'd say you have a bad video harness...

Do you hear the relay click when you actuated the switch?

Yes, the relay clicks when the switch is activated and it is ground. It doesn't click when not ground when the switch is actuated.

The switch should be providing 12VDC, no ground...:burp:

Yes, sorry, bad wording, when the system (relay and switch) is grounded and the switch is activated, there is an audible click from the relay. When it is not grounded and the switch is activated, there is no audible click.

Test the video cable by switching the feeds on the ABC relay assembly. Front Cam to Rear Cam and vice versa.

That worked!! Turns out the company marked the wrong video wires with a black mark, so when I shuffled them around it worked perfectly! Sorry for the wrong lead with the ground wire. Thanks so much for the help!

Glad you got it figured out! For any issues in the future or anyone else reading…

My screen would sometimes glitch when put in reverse and show a black screen, or the display would flicker in reverse or forward camera. The problem was the climate control panel etc was putting pressure on the yellow video plugs. I repositioned the camera wiring to where nothing was pinching the yellow video leads and it worked without any issues after that.

Im having the same issue... was hoping that that the plugs were not marked correctly like op. I tried that and after that only the rear camera would then work when hitting the front camera switch... when hitting the rear toggle switch still nothing except a black screen. Seems like nothing is happening when hitting the rear camera switch. This is my second attempt... first time I ripped the cable while pulling it through the firewall... any ideas? sorry if it doesn't make too much sense... I may just try to exchange for a new one and have a shop do it. Thanks
