I spent the day getting my ARB Bumper roughly installed.... buuut, i just can't seem to catch a break in the grief department (long story). This ARB bumper appears to be defective. Right hand side is not bent in/welded properly, and has a slight twist to it.

Has anyone else encountered this before, or is Murphy's Law just having a whole lot of fun fucking with me in particular, these days?

Mounts/subframe is fine, bumper squares up correctly in all other dimensions, according to measuring tape, it gaps/clears/overlaps pretty much correctly everywhere else .. it's only the right hand side that is grossly out of wack.

I'll get better photos tomorrow to show what's going on.

if you look at the bulge on top of the right wing you can see that it was bent in. If your able to pry it back out and flatten the top you should be good to go.

So judicious use of a come-along, as well as a big frigging hammer might suffice.. I'll take it by the shop to see what's up. I certainly didn't drop it.

A lot of the time something like this gets damaged in shipping but the shipping companies could care less and still give you the product as nothing has happend.

In retrospect, that is likely what happened. It was shipped to my local 4wheelparts on a skid, with both ends hanging over. It was left there for two weeks untouched and entirely unwrapped, until a change of plans related to unexpected costs (need for LCA's at 70,000km due to corrosion of differential metals, being the spacers and pivot bolts - full front end alignment could not be done once my suspension and lift upgrade were done - $1,100.00 went *poof* on that) forced me to pick it up and do the install myself in order to save on costs.

So, the defect and/or damage wasn't seen, until actually mounted on the vehicle.

I got into a wreck and needed a new Relentless bumper. The body shop had it sitting in the warehouse for 2 months before they installed it and by that time there were all kinds of chips in my powder coat.

Indeed, yes, i did... definitely not for the traditional 4x4 reasons. Aggressive driving resultant from overall chronically congested and poorly designed/over whelmed roadways, generally shitty skilled drivers, along with generally horrible parkers with no respect for other's vehicles that have resulted in my bumpers becoming horribly scarred and tweaked on a routine basis through no fault of my own, are all on the rise in my area and is becoming a huge personal concern, that i would prefer to be better prepared to weather a hit from, being of somewhat fragile physical health. Combine that with an accident free record since '99, my gut-instinct is that my luck is likely about to run out soon. This is very much an exercise in trying to retain some level of peace of mind, in my ongoing and unavoidable commute from Hell.

Suspension on the vehicle is also being upgraded to deal with it.

20 minutes with a 6 ft 2x4 clamped to the left hand side wing and brute forcing it with the wonders of leverage has mostly pulled it out and flattened the top bulge to where it should be. Not perfect, but a lot better. I'm gonna feel that tomorrow..

Bumper was definitely bent up, while on a skid .. the right side is tweaked/mildly twisted also. Looks like someone rammed a skid into the middle of the right hand side wing, which in turn bent the left hand side wing inwards, which was in contact with something unmovable. The Operations Manager of the local 4wheelparts shop has been made aware, and will inspect the bumper on the vehicle when it is in for suspension replacement on the 13th, and decide where to go from there. I could possibly straighten out the right hand side a bit, but the metal is stretched on the trailing edge of the bumper, and it's starting to shed the paint/powdercoating in the stretched hit area... so yeah, i'd prefer to be the first to do the first damage .. the more that i look at it, the more that it bugs me. not really keen with having received a pre-damaged bumper.

Truck went back to my local 4wheelparts branch to have my much delayed level-lift kit and new shocks/struts installed tomorrow .. Operations Manager took a look-see at the bumper, and concurred that it was shipping damage. He will be ordering a new one to replace this tweaked one.

That's Good stuff... thanks, Mike in Burlington, Ontario.
