Recently my door sensor has been acting funny - with the door open the dome light goes on and off, sometime when i get out of the truck i guess it never registers that the door opened so my headlights stay on and I have to turn them off manually. Anyone else have this problem? Is this sensor on the inside of the door where the plastic piece that holds the door open slides in and out?

I don't know? I don't leave my headlights on all the time or have my done light turned on when the door opens, you could manually turn the headlights off and keep the done light off and not have a problem for now? I guess maybe a quick fix till you figure out exactly what's messed up?

    Thanks

    Brett

Any other suggestions? Anyone at least know where this sensor is?

As you open the driver's door, look at the right side of the door jam. You'll see a rubber covered pin switch. Try pushing it in and out and wiggling it to see if it's securely in place. It may not be making a good ground contact to activate the dome light circuit. It is also possible that the contacts of this switch are dirty or corroded.

With the driver door closed, you can try testing the same switch on the passenger door to see if that one operates the circuit correctly. If so, you'll have to either clean or replace the switch(s). It appears that they are a pita to get to. You may have to remove the upper and lower B-Pillar panels. (I recently had removed the B-Pillar panel on my regular cab to do some wiring in that area and I had referred to a thread at TW explaining how to do this.)

Here is the thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-dc-interior-head-liner-removal-write-up.html Look at the photos/instuctions under "Section 2 middle - Step 1 removal of B-pillar covers" (Located about halfway down in the thread.)

Then again, you may be able to gain access to the switch by just removing the bolt below the rubber covering the switch (see photo). I don't know, since I haven't tried removing it that way.

Beyond that, there may be a malfunction of the dimming circuit component. Unfortunately, I have no idea where that component is located or what's involved in replacing it.

Good luck, and let us know your outcome!

Just watched a video, yes lift rubber bottom half, loosen bolt completely out, then pull out rest to find connection.

Yes, my truck has randomly left the lights on several times. Once stranding 5 of us on a kayaking trip. Nearest I can tell my door button doesnt always register the door as opened. Maybe this thread will inspire me to take this thing off and check it out!

If the passenger door is opened first opening the drivers door will not turn off the headlights. A word to the wise.

I have had this problem since I bought my 2006 3 years ago. Headlights first, now also dome light. Then the ECM fried on the highway. No electrical. Suspected voltage surge or rogue cell in battery. Neither. Cannot risk another failed ECM at 120km/hr! So it is in the shop and a dedicated mechanic has the wiring schematic up and is walking through it line by line. They hooked up a couple of red lights that light up every time it comes to life and put a camera on it overnight. Sure enough, EVERY night the headlights come on - for anywhere from 15 mins to 7 hours. It is not the alternator/regulator nor the battery. I was ok with the idiosyncracies until the ECM fried on the highway.
Open to all ideas and suggestions. Doesn’t seem that uncommon.
