Anyone tell me if this is normal. To me it looks like its moved back. I live in Detroit so there is a bunch of pot holes would that do it? Or could it be something else? I can't remember if its been this far back the whole time I've had this truck. Just walked out to my truck one day and just thought it didnt look right. 20170307_175834.jpg20170307_155246.jpg 20170307_175826.jpg

    Your rear end looks rough.

Is this fixable or should I go with a frame swap? It also has some rust cracks about 18" long or more on the bottom of the frame.

By "rough," do you mean unsafe to drive? That looks pretty sketchy.

That's precisely what I mean. I wouldn't touch that much rust with a 10ft pole. Idk how to handle it personally since I live in the South and don't see rust, but that needs to be taken care of.

I wouldn't either. That sh!t is scary looking. I don't think that degree of rust is all that common out here either. Maybe if you live up in the mountains, but not down here in the valley.

Damn that's bad. You need to frame swap or get real serious and pretty much build a new frame. I'm surprised it didn't fall apart when driving.

That's so sad that what looks like excellent condition Tacoma's have frames like that.
I personally would not drive it like that as the rear end could let loose hitting a bump or pothole on a curve and be deadly.

Yeah, don't drive it like that.

Have you owned the truck since new? IIRC, Michigan trucks were eligible for Toyota's frame rust recall.

No just the last 3 years or so. I was just looking into that. But its a 2000 so I'm screwed there bc it was only good for 15 years.

Unless the frame was 'treated' under the recall. If the owner took it in and it passed inspection at that time it was treated with rust preventor. I think in that scenario, if the frame fails later, it is still covered by the recall.

From the picture it looks like the hanger is completely rusted away from the frame and is now wedged into the frame by the pressure of the leaf springs...

I thought only 01-04 got frames replaced, and earlier years got scrapped?
