I think this might be the case. The depth for the disc hubs and the drum hubs are the same, but the disc version has a chamfered edge whereas the drum is a hard 90°. That might be the 1mm or so causing the interference...I’ll confirm later.

Probably best get the national guard to shut down the highways, as there is 10’s of thousands of Tacomas running 4Runner wheels. They will install them at the dealer in my town.

We have 105 pages about these wheels on this forum. They have their own thread on the 2nd gen forum as well.

What everyone is maybe missing here:

There is no Front to Back specific wheels. If it fits the front, it fits the back, or you could never rotate your wheels.

who knows.......I have them on my truck and they fit just fine.

edit: I realize this thread is discussing the newest version of the 4Runner pro wheels. I have the old “SEMA” version of the 4Runner pro wheels, so ignore me.

Of course, I don’t think anyone is missing that. The issue being discussed is either one of my wheels was milled on a Friday, or the disc hubs and the drum hubs differ enough to cause interference. I think people might just be torquing the crap out of the rears to get the wheel to seat, which is a terrible idea. Again this is the 2021 wheel redesign, the previous version seems fine.

I don’t torque the crap outta my rears. They fit perfectly fine, as they do on thousands and thousands and thousands of other Tacomas.

I’d believe hundreds, these have only been order-able since sept 2020. The previous version probably has thousands upon thousands out there tho.

Measured all the wheels at the same depth, and I confirmed that the rear drum hubs don’t have a chamfer like the front disc hubs—so that’s the issue. The 2021 center bore depth is 10.2mm, and looks like we need 11mm. I’m going to take them in to be milled out to a 12mm depth so they’ll 100% clear.

Three millimeters deeper and fits like a glove.

I really like these wheels. Only have 1500 miles on my truck and every time I see them gives me the Mitch to upgrade. What did the machinist charge to do all 4 wheels?

What's the told ya so? Has the 4runner switched to discs in 2021? Or did Toyota change something? Saying they don't fit because they are for a vehicle with discs not drums isn't true because I'm pretty sure the 2017 4runner pro had discs and those wheels fit fine on my 17 OR.

    So... Toyota changed something no?

They switched in like 2016 I think for 4runners, or maybe earlier. I think 2021 was just the 1st year of 4 wheel disc specific milling—for the T4R pro wheels.

OP, thanks for the PSA! Because of your post I found and solved the same issue.

Although I drove 2k miles and zero vibrations AND the tire shop missed it AND the dealership missed it... these 2021 4Runner Pro wheels do not sit quite flush on our hub.

Instead of getting the wheels machined down, I grinded down my hub probably only 1mm and added a chamfer and now the wheels sit flush. Thanks again for the PSA!

Which wheels are we discussing? The original Semas or the new 4Runner wheels? I have the original 4Runner SEMAs, if it’s the new 2021 4Runner wheels that are different, I apologize for any confusion I added. I don’t know anything about these new wheels. Still think it’s super weird that they are different.

Edit: I see it in the title of the thread now.
