Toyota has already replaced my radio once now the new one is doing goofy things too. Sometimes it just shuts off other's it just comes on. Last one I had to leave the truck with them so they could verify I was telling the truth. Then a month later I bring it back and blow an afternoon. Guess I will go through the same thing again.

If it is a delphi tell them to keep it. If you cant get them to give you a panasonic then get to the big toyota complaint dept. You have to keep complaining to everyone you can think of.
Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease or a new radio.
They probably gave you a recon unit that was gone over by the jerks in mexico. These are the idiots that make them in the first place.

I purchased my 2009 tacoma in September 2008. Since then, I have replaced the radio 2 times. I am now waiting for the radio that is supposed to work. It's been about 4 months since that one was ordered. I'll wait until after Thanksgiving for a solution, after that, will go to an Attorney. If you are experiencing the problems described above, it is a mfg problem. Since it is not a safety issue, Toyota will NOT come to you. I was really excited purchasing this truck, now not so much. Folks, take this issue to the dealer. The parts guy told me these go for 1300.00 to 1500.00 retail. So, toyota owes you that much at least. Good luck.....

I'm having the same problem with mine but it behaves when I play original CDs & not my home made ones. Working 2nd shift , I can see this as a major time consuming problem which is difficult to prove since its intermittent.

My 09 is doing the same thing. It happened when i first bought
it earlier this year and i thought maybe i had hit the 'mode' button
on the steering wheel by mistake.

But today, i started the truck and the radio came on like usual
except there was no display...and i couldnt turn it off.
None of the buttons would work. I turned the ignition off
and on again...same problem. After about 10 minutes of
playing the radio turned off. I stopped and did the off/on thing
again and it came on and the display was on too.
    Seems back to normal.

Def. gonna look into another system as this one does blow.
The volume thing is really annoying too...i've got to crank
it to nearly half volume to even hear it while on the road.

Mine has decided to not use the volume knob anymore. A real pain, but the steering wheel volume control works. Will show it to them next week when I go in for the tranny TSB.

    Volume control stops working:

    1. Set the volume using the steering wheel control until it shows "0" on the radio
    2. Turn the volume control on the radio in the clockwise direction; it should start working.
Mine got screwed up and that's the only way to re-sync the two. There's no rheostat (variable resistor) used anymore. The radio pwr/vol is just an encoder.

It's all part of the same problem that a lot of people have. The radio is crap even when it's working properly. Do yourself a favor & install something else, whatever it is, it will be better than what Toyota provides.
