I’ve experienced an issue while mounting my kb voodoo high rise cross bars with a retrax cover. My plan is to mount a bike on the cross bars and in order to do this with the short bed Tacoma I need to have the front cross bar close to the cab. The problem is that the tonneau canister doesnt fit between the the brackets. The bolts will hit the plastic on the canister.

My cross bars are now too close together and it will be very awkward to mount a bike on this set up. I’ll have to make arear tire tray that is extra long and haveit sticking off the back of my truck.

Has anyone experienced this and found asolution?

Contact the manufacturer. To see if there is a solution . Might be a battle between the 2 company’s to get a solution .maybe try bolts that sit more flat . Best of luck .

@jbizzlebev I am in this exact same boat right now with a pace Edwards and the kB voodoo cross bars trying to mount my bike. Did you ever figure out a solution for this?

@Kreutz_291 I have not fixed it yet. I ended up buying a tail hitch bike rack. I want to keep the voodoo cross bars to eventually mount a roof top tent on them, but it seems like the cross bars would still not be wide enough. Very annoying that I did not know this before buying them.

Just an idea, but have you thought about replacing the bolts with threaded rod, then use flat nuts to tighten it down? This will allow you to cut the threaded rod so it fits between the plastic part and have a thin nut that should fit onto the threaded rod.

@5nahalf I have not. That is a good idea, I'll give that a try!
