Anyone buy a pro charger or magnuson kit and regret it? Pros and cons? Also should maybe mention my 3rd gen is MT

Pretty sure there are two active threads now with folks replacing their 3rd gen engines due to FI. If you want fast go buy something designed to be fast. It will be cheaper.

I have a 2nd gen thats supercharged and one thats not. The answer is always, Yes supercharger! Im a fan of the magnuson set up because it is more self contained and has more useable power. I know you are talking about a 3rd gen and not a 2nd but still

Whats the reason for it? Just cause? Towing? If you're just looking for something faster just get a different/2nd vehicle. Tacomas are slow.

is it or is it not internally coming apart...
is it or is it not getting lean?
is it or is it not detonating?
even if you get it tuned, things change...

The guys dealing with the engine issues now, had zero clue they were destroying them while they were driving them around, if they did, it wouldnt have happened....
Its not something that just happened in 10 minutes, it was accumulative....

Seems to be more failures with the pro charger kit from my casual browsing here. That said, some guys will swear FI doesn’t hurt any and others will say it’ll nuke the engine.

the real question to me is the cost worth the HP? You’re looking at $10k all said and done if you can’t do the install and tune yourself for like 80hp more?

idk, if it were me I’d save that money and buy an old Miata or something and get my speed jollies there.

Even with a supercharger it would probably still be slow as hell.

In general when adding forced induction into a vehicle that originally comes N/A, it depends on the quality of parts used, the tune, and what supporting mods you have. I understand how cool it can be if you get it to work, but a lot of people don't know what they are getting into or don't know the true cost of making the additional power sustainable.

I would do the same. Older Miata or a motorcycle, granted I have the space to store these things.

I agree with the above, but I will add- if you do still go this route, I would learn to install and repair on your own, as it will more than likely require plenty of tinkering around. Having to pay and rely on a shop will leave you hand cuffed.

Thats not always true & best case scenario....
If "Sherwoods Fleet" would have brought the vehicle to a reputable shop after he did the install of the kit & did his Mickey Mouse tune install...
The "dyno tuners" that actually look at live data / PIDS, fuel trims, etc...
Would have Cleary said, "Houston, I think we have a problem" here......
    Without a doubt...

Lots of fear mongering in this thread. OP if you want to add boost get the magnuson kit. Its an OE level kit with a great supercharger. You'll get years of trouble free performance.

Do it. It's not gonna be fast but will be enough to get you in trouble. With a proper tune, you're looking at around 100+hp/tq gain. Add a smaller pulley(87mm) and retune and you will be over 350whp.
