This came to me in my sleep last night. I'm not sure if a similar product exists. If one doesn't, I'd like input to develop it.

This would be geared towards off-roading enthusiasts.

The idea is a Utility Track that would bolt behind the factory side rails, to facilitate the mounting of hi-lift jacks, shovels, axes, etc....

This is what was in my head:

My thought, for now, is that the factory cleats would still be usable. Does this make any sense? Does anyone see any use for this, or should I stop hallucinating in my sleep?

And did someone already suggest this to me? If you did, let me know so you get credit for it, and so you can get the first production piece on the house (as per KB Voodoo Fabrications company policy).

So, you're saying the factory track would be taken off and then remounted with this behind it? I'm trying to picture how the HiLift would mount to this differently than the factory track.

So this rail would be below the factory rail. In theory being able to hold more weight due to rigidity?

It would sandwich between the factory rail and the bed. It should be capable of holding quite a bit of weight.

It could also be a nifty place to mount crossbars. It could have mounting holes already in place for that.

I was thinking the OEM rail would run right down the center of the Utility Track (that's what I'm calling it) to enable the use of the cleats.

Do you see any use for this? In my state, they don't really let you do any offroading, so I'm not sure if this is useful to people who are allowed to live a life of adventure.

Maybe if it was supplied with a few Titan Straps it would be useful for holding things.

It wpould have to be wide enough to rotate the factory cleats when mounting them.

Also I would prefer it below the rail. I want to be able to tie ropes and such to cleats.

End cap on the rail is removable and you can just slide them out the end so rotating them in may not be necessary allowing for tighter tolerances

Increasing efficiency carrying gear is always of interest.

    Current projects I've been drafting up include;
    - Septer water can holder, able to tip and pour water as part of tail gate kitchen
    - Fuel can holder, Can't make it back from Enchanted Towers without a back country fuel stop
    - Axes, shovels, saws. Yes there is a need for these holders. Problem is quick easy access with theft deterrent

:rofl:Dare we ask what circumstances precluded this??

Could use a drop through pin with a drill out component to fit a small lock on it instead of detent retention? Not amazingly super secure but still more than the smash and grab crews might put up with?

It would definitely support an RTT with HD crossbars.

I think I'm still having trouble visualizing use of the product. I understand that the factory tracks nest in this item. Would a HiLift be mounted above the factory tracks, allowing the rail and bed cleats to still be used?
