    Newbie question here -

Just took delivery of a 2017 Tacoma, so far really like the truck other than the keyless start FOB. Not sure if this is possible but can a transponder key be set up to work with the keyless start feature? I would like to have a spare key that would open the door and be able to start the vehicle without having to carry the key fob.

I played around with the keyless fob and have verified that it will start the vehicle when there is no battery in it so there is definitely an RFID chip in the fob that is recognized by the vehicle, so does anyone know if the encryption used in the keyless fob is compatible with a G or an H transponder key?

    TIA

    Andy

I can’t answer you question but is there any difference in carrying a key fob or just a key?

There’s a lexus key card you can program and use that instead

I would prefer a transponder key for a couple of reasons - I can hide one under the vehicle as a spare and a transponder key will fit better on my key ring.

Be interested as I have thought the same thing. Can hide a spare chipped key on my truck fairly easy. Would rather not stash a spare fob
