Programers??

I have a 2001 Tacoma. I have a code reader that I plug in under the dash to see what codes it is throwing when the check engine light is on. I have heard of programmers you plug into the same spot and you can tell you truck what size tires you are running, when to shift gears, and what altitude you are at.
I basically want this for the tire size and to tell it what altitude I'm at. I go to college at NAU which is 7,000 ft or more. And I notice a huge loss of power from when I am down in San Diego. Does anyone know of anything like this for the tacoma? or do they not make them for Tacomas?

of course you loose power at 7,000'...way less oxegyen there..its like starving your motor. Totally normal. try it a 10,000 or 13,000 some time..

I don't know of any device that plugs into your OB2 port that tells you elevation..pretty sure thats not possible. If you want that get a GPS.

the two popular choices are Scan gauge II or Ultra Gauge.

then there are just generic code readers out there

you can recalibrate them for larger tires to get a more accurate speed and milage guess.


but nothing you can get will change the shift points. ONly a fully reprogrammed ECU will do that.
