I buy my remotes on ebay for $20 & they usually come with programming guides. I replaced my remote 3 times with my 2005 tacoma. All purchased on ebay.

Thanks for the video link, it worked like a charm...the second time i tried it.

I got nervous after nothing happened on the first go-around, but when you fall off the horse, you gotta get back on.

    Thanks again!

I avoided the question using the search function and I found my answer here. Good information. My battery died in my remote; the programming worked on the first shot. The video is good for showing how easy it really is.
    Thanks!

All the programming instructions & YouTube video agree as to the steps to enter the programming mode but it just doesn't seem to work on my 09 Taco. Tried 8 times over 2 days with 2 different factory keys. There is a dealer installed cheapie alarm that I haven't removed yet. I wouldn't think that would stop the process. Any suggestions?

If my 08 didn't come with a remote can one be added by just purchasing a remote and going through the steps or are more parts needed to make it work?

Is is correct that all Sport models 2005 and up come with factory keyless entry?

I bought one on ebay and can't get it to program, I like to think I'm not an idiot. I'm a car dealer so I program remotes all the time that I buy on ebay. This is the first one I can't get to work and it's on my f-ing truck! The company did send me a replacement but I think it's a cheap Chinese remote because there's no fcc id #'s on the back.

I only got the truck with one key and it's grey, is that the color of the master keys and could that be the problem? I can get it into program mode, locks cycle once but once I press the buttons to program it, it cycles twice every time. It's making me nuts.

Somehow I did this by accident and now every time I remove the key from the ignition it locks, unlucks my truck doors. Now I know how to take it futher and do the confirmation sequence.

One time when i got out of the truck I noticed that the headlights did not turn off. so I got back inside, messed around with the lock-ON sequence and the interior lights flashed, then the headlights went out after opening the door....

Doe anyone know where to find the instructions for other Ignition Lock-ON sequences?

A couple of years ago, my son was called to help someone replace a battery in a new Jag. First issue was finding it of course. Buried in the trunk with some odd battery post connectors. But once we installed the battery, it would not crank. Called a friend at a local import shop and he said he'd fax me the instructions on how to reset the security system after a total power favor and snickered.

Got the fax and we started to follow the instructions without reading through the 4 page document. Got about half way through with this lock the door, unlock the door, sit down in the drivers seat, unlock the door, insert the key, scratch your nose, and told my son "just a damned minute... we look like we are doing a 1950's "chinese fire drill at a red light." I smell a rat. I called him back, and I heard a loud laughing in the background. But it turns out the ridiculous instructions were correct. Sounds somewhat akin to this Toyota stuff. But in any case, that is far better than GM's "bring it in so we can hook up our computer and reprogram the thing." My son had a Malibu SS and lost one set of keys and remote. Key and remote was about $200 bucks, plus $85 to reprogram. I'd be willing to sit naked on the battery to avoid that kind of robbery. :)

This is good info. I only have one remote for my 2007 Taco. Fixing to order one since it is easy (relatively easy) to make the thing recognize the new remote...
