How come you have the squares cut out on the joining plate? Just more area of penetration? I don't know anything about welding.

Yep, it's called fishplating, and it's to make joined areas/frame rails stronger.

Been a whiles since I posted and update. @EddyRRT helped me get a lot of the big stuff done in a day.
First we got the rear springs mounted. These are lift Chevy 63s. Probably gonna pull out 2 leaves and throw a stock Tacoma shackle in. Then adjust from there
    IMG_20170114_180919083.jpg IMG_20170114_180926937.jpg

Rear cab mounts are build and the cab is on them. Gonna have to jack it up at least once more but at least its there now. AWESOME.

Engine mounts are build and the engine and trans are now suspended from the frame. Passanger frame rail isn't straight at the engine bay, but oh well. Nothing connects there and something was bound to be screwed up in this deal
    IMG_20170114_181729109.jpg IMG_20170114_181841120.jpg

Had the front clip mocked up just to see what needed to be adjusted to get it back on. Frame horns will need to be extended about 1/4". A couple plate caps on the frame horns should take care of that

Got the firewall tubbed. Major pain in the ass. Ran out of shielding gas and had to wait for the next weekend. I did nowhere near as clean a job as Eddy did on my other truck but its done. A lot of seal sealer to hide the mistakes.

Fuel tank is almost mounted. Just neep to go pick up a longer bolt and finish on last mount then drop the tank, paint and reinstall. Leaving the Evap crap out. There's no vehicle inspections in this state and the CEL is gonna be on no matter what I do. Along with pretty much every other light.

    IMG_20170128_194908086.jpg IMG_20170128_194940053.jpg

Started the bed build. This will be a truck type storage area with a flip open lid. Probably raised and lowered with a 12" linear actuator for shits and giggles.

There's more I'm sure I'm forgetting but that's the gist of it. @ahspurlock is coming over next Saturday to knock out whatever mechanical stuff we can

Thank you @EddyRRT and @ahspurlock for the help and keeping me somewhat sane

Just read from around page 5 where I left off last time. Was pretty cool to see your welds improve about 1000% from those first "boogers".

such a cool project, and many many props for taking it on and having a good attitude about it. you're gunna come out with a rig that will snap necks trying to get a good look at it!

Thank you. I still booger things from time to time but it's definitely improved. I'm just gonna keep plugging away and one day it might be a truck again.

I haven't seen this thread before but am VERY interested. I know you said to laugh at it, but I can't, it's badass! I don't care how much work it needs (and this looks like a real pain). You saw that you could buy a toy for less than doing those upgrades to your daily driver, good for you! I can't wait to see how this thing ends up.
