Well since I plan to get 10mpg or less and I wanna do some long distance trips I figured a second fuel tank was in order. I picked this up today. It was on sale and in stock. I've got work to do on the brakes tomorrow but I might start building the mount for it. This will make up the back of the bed and be encased by the exocage

You going to build a tube bed and exo cage?

I've been kicking that thought around for the last year or so. I think I'm going to hold off until I retire it from being my DD (another 3 years or so).

That yellow mini truck bed is so rad! I want to do something similar using a truck vault as the "bed" base

Damn, this thread is awesome! I have saved a couple of the same flatbed photos you have... the one on the yellow cab with dimple die and the tube bed on the white cab with the pivot down tire carrier. A 42 is definitely too heavy to not have a pivot down tire carrier. The Jeep Tube bed with the sheet metal filler is super cool as well.

The SAS first-gen Taco I bought was too much of a hackjob to keep. I wheeled it a couple times and sold it because I didn't want to get into as much of a project as you are- haha! Figured it would have been easier to start from the beginning to do it how I wanted it. But buying someone elses project is definitely how you get it for cheap!

I did the tube work on this truck! And the truck owner did all the sheet metal on it

That dual tube main hoop (almost old school headache rack) is something I had in mind

That was honestly probably the hardest part of that whole bed, tube wise. This was my first bending project so we didn't quite get both hoops the exact same, but thank God for ratchet straps. We had to push and pull that second hoop and tack in those connecting tubes as we went to get them close to matching. It wasn't perfect but a good learning experience nonetheless.

Going to pick up another vehicle Friday. I need a tow rig and new DD so I'm going to look at an 05 V10 Excursion.

Black_N_Tan may be on the market to pay for it, a trailer and the parts to finish Basketcase soon
