Most have good penetration, or at least good enough. THeres a few that need a little love but nothing that can't be fixed. Thats pretty much the story with the whole truck

Absolutely. Sounds like you have a good plan for it. You cannot go wrong with a small body lift. Lots of benefits all around.

But the OP bought a rig that was built :D

I cringe each time I hear this "built vs bought" argument. It does not make any sense at all. There's absolutely nothing wrong or shameful with having a real pro build a rig. If you have the time, skills, patience and space to pull it off; then building your own rig can be pretty cool for sure.

I think it's awesome how this rig is being resurrected.

The question is: built to your personal spec, or bought 'off the shelf ' to some one else's. Regardless of who does the fab work.

So true. Same reason I'm building a buggy from the Ground up VS buying one cheaper. Don't want to be like. Hey that was so and so's buggy

The hard part is learning enough to know what you want, before embarking on a custom build.

Or find someone who will buy the first attempt after you figure out all the things you don't like...

I'll be very curious to hear from @SGTCap, once this rebuild is done, if he's happier with a re-sas or wishes he'd just bought a used taco and started from scratch.

This is usually the most expensive and frustrating route.

Personally, if built right, I wouldn't mind owning a rig that people recognize. There are amazing rigs out there that people would jump on quickly if they are put up for sale simply because of the great reputation they have.

This is exactly what I did; tons and tons of research about what I wanted to do. The research and parts gathering part took almost two years. The research also included finding the right builder. When the project started I was very involved in all aspects of it.

I suspect the latter. Re-building somebody else's hack job is always more frustrating and expensive in the long-run.

Good thing is that the OP got a good platform with good axles and parts to start with.

AS of right now, the nice thing about going this route is that for the first time I actually have a spare vehicle. I can work on this a while, shut the door and walk away. Normally I have to work straight through, start to finish because I have to drive my truck home.

By the time this is all said and done I'll have about $25k in the truck. So I should be breaking even or a little under what it would have cost to buy a bone stock 05 and do the swap.

The frame rust and rusty fasteners have been the biggest hurdle so far but I'm sure there will be more. I've got the rust issue pretty well take care of now, so I'm pretty much at the point I expected to be when I started. Before I ever saw the truck I figured it would need to be relinked and all that.

I'll post some pictures later today. Got a little work done this weekend

Got the bed mocked up this weekend. Went ahead and sectioned the bed tube to fit as well. I still have to pull it all of and mkae things more perminent, but this gave me an idea of where my bumper would be ect.

Built a frame for a pull out drawer that will be recessed onto the bed. I'll cutt a big hole in the middle of the bed and set it as low as I can without it hitting the rear bumper. The evap system will be relocated or deleted.IMG_20160930_130107623.jpg IMG_20160930_130125083.jpg IMG_20160930_130141042.jpg IMG_20160930_154518990.jpg IMG_20161001_154829099.jpg IMG_20161001_154835502.jpg IMG_20160930_130107623.jpg IMG_20160930_130125083.jpg IMG_20160930_130141042.jpg IMG_20160930_154518990.jpg IMG_20161001_154829099.jpg IMG_20161001_154835502.jpg IMG_20160930_130107623.jpg IMG_20160930_130125083.jpg IMG_20160930_130141042.jpg IMG_20160930_154518990.jpg IMG_20161001_154829099.jpg IMG_20161001_154835502.jpg

Next up is to buy, beg, borrow or steal a Cutting torch and a generator to run the plasma and cut all the mounts off of the frame and axles. Gotta pick up a set of 12 ton jack stands from HF to but the frame on. Those damn jack stands are over $100 a pair. OUCH. I may be a grand into tools next week

I got a catalog in the mail the other day with 20% off any single item, so that should take them below $100 by a little bit. I assume you need the 12 tons because of the additional height?

Do you plan on sticking with the inverted shackle design or doing a flip at some point?
