Update. Bit slow, car lift decided to blow the main hydraulic line while the truck was on it sketchy but saved to say the least. Napa came through with a 30ft replacement and crimped ends in 15mins.


HP 3rd set to 11.5° knuckle balls set to 8° of caster.

 

Updates.

Got the front diamond almost assembled. Running into a hub/seal/spindle issue when preload is set on the wheel bearing the hub cannot turn at all.

Trucks coming out good Greg. Stoked to see it on the new axles! Do you have a tire size goal for the new setup?

 

Thanks Mike, both new axles ought to change alot of things that will make it easier on and off road.
Tire size will be the same, actually the Pitbull tires and SCS wheels were in prep for the new axles. (backspacing and tire width) Wider also means into the fenders more so some body chopping is in the future with a new fender flare setup im looking to try out.

Main changes the axles bring are:

Strength and width obviously , all four corners now use the same spindles, wheel bearings, seals, etc. New pinion angle for HP Ziplocker 3rd (new setup puts the pinion and u joint above the front leaf springs!!), new low profile spring mounts and caster angle and wider shock mounting for stability.
Under axle clearance, more than both previous housings which would be equal to about being on 39-40s.
Rear axle will be a big change with strength from full float, disc/P. brakes, RCV shafts, pinion angle, and removing the LSPV in favor of a manual dial.

 

Is center diff clearance about the same?

 

Easily an inch more clearance on both, more on the front. I'll have to grab a pic inside the inspection hole (aluminum knob cover on both axles) Literally the ring gear is a 1/4" away. Diamond center section is really built as tight as possible to the 3rd.

 

I dig it. Was the rear still the stock width semi float?

 

Factory rear was unchanged and no wheelspacers.
Once the front is finished, i'll post pics of building the rear diamond.

I'd kill for a full float rear. Fuck the bearing/seal job on these trucks. Though since both are fresh and lasted 200k hope I'm good for a while. Still wish i had FF in case I ever grenaded the diff tho.

 

I know where you can find some prebuilt semi float shafts w/bearings on 26k miles set...

And yeah being able to pull a shaft or even unlock the whole rear is going to be nice. Also, semi float the trucks weight is a factor as it puts load on the axle shaft. FF all stress is just turning the wheels forward or backward.

 

Since I just rebuilt mine I'm not worried, but @avw4x4 might be interested...

And true, I forgot about that too. Always liked the idea of swapping an elocker fj80 axle underneath the rear.

 

Front axle is bolted on. Still need the HA, skid, drag link and should finally be done with that axle

Damn you are progressing fast! Are you still running a high ride height? I know you lowered it a little after the incident on J. These axles should stay nice and low I'd assume, they gotta be heavy.
