I get new rubber on my 2013 taco every November
this year I decided to also get my tossed rims powder coated matte black
they have 383k miles on them & I cant remember the last time I actually cleaned them
(prob around 100k miles ago, if I were to guess)
I do wash my taco regularly, but not the rims

I believe the rims will be completed today by the powder coater
& I will put up some pics of the rims/my truck once it all comes together (hoping for today!)

    happy monday TW!

yeah....been there. Drove the wheels off a 2007 Corolla. Ran 100K in the first year of ownership and each year after.

Oil changes every month, tires every year, tranny fluid/filter every year, spark plugs every year.........and so on and so forth.

Gave the car to my daughter as her college ride, when she married, they sold it to a friend......last known the car was still running with nearly 400k on it. The engine still has not been opened.

I found that Michelin tires gave the longest life with best all around performance. I typically got 60-75K out of a set, but I was religious about tire pressures and rotation at each oil change. I got pretty quick and good at the task.

Did you sandblast them first? We have a DIY industrial blast place here that i thinking of taking my wheels to before paint.

I'm curious. What is the quoted price? What preparations are included?

I've got 17" OEM 5 spoke with the paint coming off leaving bare aluminum exposed to the elements.

I'm debating about replacing or repairing.

A set of 17" OEM wheels run about $4-500 for a set of 4. Then the transfer of rubber and sensors will add, but this is a sunk cost with either choice.

I run the factory specd dunlop's
Got them for $350 (all 4) at discount tire the other day...$22 a piece to install at my local shop...so like $450 all in

I easily get 50k miles out of them
I live in snow country at 4500 feet in Oregon
Never had an issues with the dunlop's as far as safety/reliability

    Here's the breakdown on cost
    $350 for the new rubber
$100 for tire removal & reinstall new rubber
$400 for sandblast & powder coat
    My wheels are 16" btw

    $850 all in
I also ordered 24 new chrome lugs
    So call it $900
I had budgeted $1000 for the project
    Saved $100!

I'm starting to lean towards replacement as the less costly option.

    Repair:
Set of 4 rims to use while OEM are in shop.
    Rubber/TPMS swap to spare rims.
    Prep and coat OEM rims
    Rubber/TPMS swap to OEM rims
    Try to sell spare rims.

    Replace:
    Set of 4 rims
    Rubber/TPMS swap to new rims.
    Sell old rims for scrap.

Replacement OEMs can be found in the $4-500 range for a set of 4. $100 for rubber/TPMS swap and balance..... Total cost is about $600.
Either path requires buying a set of rims and the rubber swap.

I'd be looking for some new takeoffs if I were you. I can usually find new Tacoma rims/tires with under 5k on them for 4-500 on FB/Craigslist when looking.

I have three backup factory OEM rims
Which made the process much easier for me
(I didn't need temp wheels or blocks)
I removed one wheel & replaced it with the spare for the last week while the powder coating took place

Many miles ago I blew up a tire/rim & needed a new one, so I bought a full set of 4 like new OEM rims, used one, & saved the other 3 as spares.....taco life yo!

Powder coating is more durable than the factory OEM finish on the rims
    & Much easier to clean

Furthermore I got rustoleum peel coat in flat black as the base color for this project and matched the paint for the rims to that flat black color so if I get any chips and for the center caps I can do the peel coat for touch-ups

No doubt, powder coat is a great finish. Those rims look great in that color.
