    Hey there-
love the hid retrofits into the 2012 headlamps- are there any companies making a replacement lamp like available for 2005-2011 tacos?
(hopefully more tasteful) and can these be changed easier to the hid bulbs?
    thanks

No one makes aftermarket replacement headlights for the 2012+ Tacos. Do a retrofit and save yourself a lot of headache. Or just put a DDM tuning HID kit in the stock housing and call it a day. Although HID's in a stock housing will typically blind other drivers. I had HIDs in my stock 2009 housing and never got flashed. I plan on doing a retrofit with the morimoto mini d2s projectors, gatling shrouds, halos and bhlm.

The process of doing the whole retro fit seem like a whole weekend and slightly ease to really mess up, hopefully there will be better options for the 2012+ when they become available.

Even for the '05-'11 there are no better options than the retrofit.

eBay and other aftermarket projector kits are terrible.
With an HID kit installed, they might approach stock brightness, but the pattern sucks.
Someone recently posted a photo of the pattern of one of these "projectors" with HID and while the cutoff was good and it did not blind other drivers, the pattern itself looked like a pair of sleepy eyes. They had dark spots in the center, and there was a definite U under them, rather than an even band of light like you get from even the cheaper/easier H1 or DS2 retrofits.

Seriously... The H1/DS2 retrofit is no harder than doing the Black Headlight Mod.
Don't trust yourself on your stock headlights? Pick up a spare set from a wrecking yard or eBay and do the mod on them, then spend a half day installing them.

You very well may be stuck with factory/OEM for the 2012.

IF available, a couple of good makers are Depo and TYC/Elegante.
But I don't know if they are out for the '12 yet.

Oh yes please do avoid the ebay projector lights. They look terrible. I hate to see tacos with those lightz. They look so cheap.

I just got my 2013 Tacoma PreRunner TRD package after trading in my 2010 Audi A4. On the A4 I had done a mode / after market kit for the head lamps with HID 55W low beam and ultra blue Halogen for the high beam. I see that on the new Tacoma that the low and high are the same bulb in the same housing. Has anyone found a good housing unit that has the low and high beam separated from each other or do you know of a HID kit that has the low and high beam bulb as one bulb? I have a feeling that in order to pass my state inspections that either I will have to get a new headlamp housing that has the two bulbs separated out and then I can do HID in the low beam and Halogen in the high or find some kind of HID kit that has the low and high beam in the same bulb which I do not think is possible at this time.

Illegal as hell, dangerous, and inconsiderate to other drivers.

The poster is asking about projectors and projector retrofits... not H4 "drop in" units.

ordered my retro two weeks ago with the group buy.

according to Andrew (TRS) for the 2012-13 he recommends either the Apollo or the orbit shroud.
