Does anyone know if an American TSB also applies in Canada? The TSB I'm thinking of is T-SB_0016-13 (Feb., 2013) and deals with propeller shaft issues and the resulting 'bump from behind' sensation.

I experienced it while gently accelerating in traffic (2013, automatic, 4WD, 4.0, 74K kilometres). FWIW, I've also noticed a hard shift sensation under normal acceleration at around 60km/h.

Here's a PDF of the TSB.

Not sure, but interested in finding out. I bought some lube to lube up the splines on the drive shaft to fix the 'bump from' behind I feel every now and then. Haven't done it yet, waiting for warmer weather.

I'm in Canada and took the truck in for a recall notice I received over a year ago re: drive shaft... something to do with the u-joints.... I grease mine regularly so nothing was done by the dealer.

I've read about guys having their drive shaft replaced under the TSB the OP posted, but curious exactly what is different between the old and new drive shaft. Can't be too many ways of manufacturing splines.

Same here. I never heard of this one and the Recalls.gov site says I'm up to date. I've lubed the splines on the slip yoke a couple times. It takes care of the annoying clunk for a while, but it always comes back. I'm wondering if there is a better lube than the Ford stuff.

I kind of stumbled across the TSB as I was wondering about the 'bump from behind' sensation. I was stopped in traffic and when I started to move forward, it almost felt like someone had bumped (ever so gently) the back of the truck. However, the guy behind me was well back. When I got home, I started Googling and it brought me to the website below. (If you open the PDF attached to the site, it has all the details.)

The only problem is the TSB is American. But can there be that much difference between the Canadian and US version of the truck when it comes to the propeller shaft?

And FWIW, I have the propeller shaft greased at every oil change.

There are zerk fittings on the u-joints. There is no 'official' way to grease the splines, unless you remove the boot and regrease the splines. Spline greasing wouldn't be part of routine maintenance carried out by Toyota or any other shop.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the owner is notified about a 'recall', but TSBs are meant for the mechanics working on the trucks and TSBs aren't sent to owners.

Interesting, I've felt this 'bump from behind' sensation on my '14.

It likely applies but it doesnt matter as you are way out of warranty now.

4runners suffered from this badly, its super annoying.

I bought extended warranty. It's good until July 2023 or 200K kilometres.

I'm in the process of trying to find a Canadian TSB site, but not having much luck. I may have to call my dealership if I can't find anything on-line.

Another thing to note is that TSB has a limit of 5 years or 60k miles. So while my 2010 suffers from the 'bump from behind issue', I think I'm too late to have it covered under this TSB.

I can't see there being a difference between a US and Canadian drive shaft.

Just saw you have an extended warranty, so comment about a 5 year limit may not apply. Let us know how you make out

Here's another case, but not necessarily propeller shaft related. This time in Eustis, Florida. The owner claims the issue was resolved by adding fluid to the transmission but blames the dealership when they flushed the transmission four months prior (make sure you scroll well down on the site).

I definitely will post any updates I get. My dealership has been pretty good to me (probably because my yard is full of Toyotas) so I'm hoping I'll get some answers.

    Thanks for the input, folks!

    Cheers!

I case you haven't seen this, here's one way to address the issue. Getting a proper fix from Toyota would be the best approach, but this video gives you an idea what the issue is.

Thanks for the video link, Jag. Makes sense...other than the embedded rooster, of course. Lol!

Thanks to one of the good folks on this forum, I may have found the Canadian version of the TSB. It's not quite as specific with its description of the 'bump from behind' referenced on the American TSB, but it might be just what I'm looking for.

It was discussed last summer on this forum and it would still be under warranty (not even extended warranty).

I may have messed up, folks. The TSB I posted above relates only to 2016-17 model years (TSB is T-TCI-5133).

That's pretty much it. You cant forget to chalk or mark the driveline so it goes back exactly the same way. Toyota pretends that the slip yoke has a "lifetime" lube. That's total B.S. It gets dry and binds. I just treat this as a regular maintenance issue. New clamps can be bought at auto parts stores. Toyota wont sell them to you.
