Proper way to engage e-brake?

    Does anyone know the proper way to engage the e-brake for automatic and manual transmission? I've heard and read that it is best to stop vehicle (apply foot on brakes), put vehicle into park, engage the e-brake, then ease foot off of brake pedal.

    With an auto, I like to put it in neutral, then engage the brake, then let my foot off the brake, then put it in park. NO strain on the drive train that way.

    Sorry, I do that with my mom's '94 suburban. You could just let off the brake to put the pressure on the parking brake, then depress the brake again to put it in park.

    manual tranny is easy...just make sure you are completely stopped (or not, if u enjoy a good jolting) and pull that e-brake handle all the way back

    I'm talking about auto transmission BTW. For manual I sink the clutch and stop with foot brake, put it in reverse (decline) or first (level or incline), pull up the e-brake, shut car off and get out.

    I always hold the truck with the brake and place it in neutral.
    Then engauge the parking brake.
    Seems to keep pressure off the the tranny.

    I have seen this before. I re-watched it and it was like seeing again for the first time. Thanks! I find it rather hilarious that a parking garage camera caught the entire situation on camera. So that guy in the video should come to TW and read this thread. :laugh:

    i put it in first, e-brake, turn off the engine, and then take my foot off the brake...
