What differences (pro or con) could one expect from running a tire size of 285 70 17 vs 285 75 17? Thank you.

The 75 is nearly an inch larger in diameter, so you may notice a greater loss of power and fuel economy - depending on your uses and driving style. The 75 will also provide more clearance for offroading and will have a bigger footprint when aired down. Both will require a cab mount chop. the 75 may require trimming the fenders.

I have 5100 up front with 887 so I am up about 3 inches. Do you still believe I will need to trim for a 285/70/17? or 275/70/17?

You need a CMC for 285/70/17. Likely for 275/70/17 also.

IMAG1598_1.jpg I actually have a 2.5 suspension with a 1" body, and purchased 285-70R17 tires and have no rub. I was told I would have rub with a 75, but rim diameter also plays a role in tire size as well. I stuck with a 17" rim , so a 70 was the size choice. Had I got 18 rims, I'd have purchased the 75, and still have no rub. I'll probably take that route later on. Oh yeah!!! I am running 1" and 1/4 spacers.... The hub-centric spacers..... Don't buy anything other than hub-centric....

    3 inch lift. 285/70
From the amount of research if you have the right size wheels. You should have no problem fitting 285/70/17 under a 3 inch lift. My wheels are -.12 off set and 4.5 back space

I have 285/70/16 2" lift no rubbing no cmc
I don't do any hardcore off-roading but I've still yet to rub. Aftermarket wheels.

Off the subject, now that I shot the belt with the 285's is a 4.88 gearing, which I see is the most common size gear, would this gear be too tall, or low a gear for this size tire?? Just curious as maybe the 4.88 is better for 35's or 33's??
