only cons are the paint scratches it leaves behind but it's usually limited to below bed rails and can only be seen when removing the topper.

windoor more for easy access into the side of the platform. I planned to add some doors to open and with windoors you can reach in and make it more usable. If its really hot open up both sides to have air flowing through. The idea of a velcro screen is a nice touch. I have velcro privacy/insulation I tack up for keeping out the light and regulating some temps. Right now my Leer only has the small pop out portion at the back which is almost useless but does help some but def not enough.

4Runners cargo area is 18” shorter than the Taco combo mentioned here. That’s what I gained by trading my 4Runner for my Tacoma

I don't have a hard topper and never had. I can totally see the benefits and simplicity but my eyes don't agree with it.

If anyone sees a 3rd gen long bed shell (used) for sale anywhere let me know. Preferably in quicksand but would take another color depending on price

True, but the bright side is you’re already bugged out when the SHTF.

I like the quicksand trucks with black tops. To me there’s something about a different color top that looks good. I’m not talking like a red top on a blue truck but something more subtle. It keeps no doubt that it’s a truck and not a truck trying to look like an suv. Sort of like how a Jeep looks better with a black top than a color match.

Or maybe it’s just me trying to justify that I have a magnetic shell on my cement truck. :anonymous:

Depending on the price I would get it wrapped to match. I really like the ARE overland series shell with the black accent in the stress points and color matched quicksand. They’re just so damn expensive new and almost impossible to find used

Just curious why would you want to re-register the truck from a commercial to an auto, and give up the ability to park in a yellow curb spot? Especially in say Los Angeles, or San Francisco/Bay!

Pros: If you do it right it just looks like a Grandpa Truck
Cons: It costs a LOT of money to fill up the inside

I use my truck for Search and Rescue so I always have to have my gear in it and don’t want to advertise what is inside.

Do people tend to swap leaf packs when adding a topper? Or can you get away with the stock ones.

Not always. But older leafs may have more sag. AAL is a cheaper preventative measure.

IIRC I was sagging about 7/8” with factory leafs. I went Dakar’s with one of the overloads removed and get less sag now. But my suspension sits high enough that that little bit of squat helps get things in the right place.

Wow, $2600 for an ARE with Windoors and the black coating.
    Leer $1500 with sliding windows.

Topper only adds couple of hundred pounds. That is not even the weight of a good ol boy. People get carried away with overbuying stuff. Women aren't the only ones that like to shop.

Put it on and throw your gear in there and go do stuff.
