Moonroofs are laminated glass. If you’re in an accident that shatters the glass it remains inside the lamination just like your windshield.

If you’re worried about a pressure change in your cab from an open window, should probably fill your vents with spray foam (my point is that your cab is not a sealed system).

I am trying to find peer reviewed studies about how a moonroof impacts vehicle occupant safety and have found none.

If this was true, manufacturers wouldnt put them in vehicles whatsoever. This is more of a tin-foil hat conspiracy than fact...

The only point that is even debatable is the very first sentence. I highly doubt this person has any medical training whatsoever.

I’ve been pulling people out of car wrecks for 16 years and have never thought to myself or heard “man if only that roof was a few inches higher.” I’ve never been in the back of the helicopter with a patient while shaking my fist at the sky “damn moonroof!” I’ve never been to a trauma conference and heard anything about a moonroof or a sunroof.

Pro you can get some day, or moon light through the roof.

Con weight, it can leak, it can break in the open position, you can forget to close it and the elements get through to the interior.

I like the novelty of a sunroof and had one on all but two of the vehicles I've had, my Tacoma being one of them. I wanted to trade my e46 that had one for one with out. Unless it's going to get you laid, I don't see the need for a sunroof.

 Yuh huh. It’s an opening, that can bust out during a roll over and assist in de-limbing. Still, super impressed.

I’m not going to freak out over moon roofs, but let’s be real here. They are still another opening in the cab.

In this thread I question a fucking moon roof on a truck, where trucks are heading, and who exactly it is steering the truck trends into this bullshit.

I currently own a 17 PRO. My last two Tundras with moonroof each had issues. My 2008 Tundra the seal went bad and got caught in the track when the moonroof was opened. My 2004 Tundra moonroof developed a leak as well. I like my Pro, no sun roof no worries about leaks.

My truck has one and I hardly ever use it. I've heard if yours doesn't have one, you actually have more headroom. I would much rather have more headroom than a sunroof that steals an inch or two!

At 5’10 I felt cramp when seated in sunroof models. Heck my first time ever being in a 3rd gen taco (which had a sunroof), I hit my head on the headboard when simply moving around in the cabin and reaching around, I knew then that extra inch or two on top was priceless. Most my friends are 6’ and taller and they are tight enough as it is in my Taco, glad I don’t have the sunroof to make it that much worse. My wife’s has had them on her last two vehicles and I’ve never ever seen her use it. She just got a 19’ Subaru Ascent that has a HUGE moonroof, pretty freaking cool at night to see the stars but not something I’d want on my taco.

I know a lot of people like the option having a sun/moonroof (whatever they are called) but unfortunately it noticeably effects headroom on a Tacoma. People need to really get in one and compare to a non sunroof model to see the difference. I don’t mind sunroofs, my next truck (2500hd) will have one, but no way I’m sacrificing precious headroom on an already small cabin.

I am 6'3 with normal proportions....and call all the head bumping comments ridiculous. As mentioned before, love my moon/sun roof....retractable slide is open year round. If you want one, get it. If you don't, you will regret it as well as the one you try to sell it to 12 years down the road. Go to a stealer and sit in a Tacoma with a sun/moon roof...decide for yourself.

Thats not true. Covertables are very dangerous in a roll over accident... they still make them. Motorcycles are dangerous too.

Just because something presents risk doesn’t mean its eliminated from the market.

    Everything is situational.

I’ve seen what happens to peoples arms when they are hanging out the window in an accident. I’m not going to tell Toyota to stop making side windows I’m just going to keep mine rolled up.

Breathing presents a risk. Living life like that, might as well not have lived at all.

Never had any issues with Toyota sunroofs. Two Tacoma’s and two Tundras. Easily over 500,000 miles between the four. If it’s not for headroom issue then yes of course sunroof is nice to have.

The biggest problem is that I paid for one and never use it.

I really didn't want the hole in the roof but I had no choice when i ordered the truck....I couldn't find a 12-15 DCLB OR.
Ended up ordering a 17 DCLB off road w premium & tech packages, a bed mat and no other crap.

I had a shitty manual pop up one on my old pathfinder and have to say I like having this, Especially after tinting all the windows.

This is like the 2WD vs the 4WD drive thread. You won't really use the sun/moonroof daily but when given the chance, there's nothing like opening up the roof , rolling down the side windows as you are cruising on a 6 hour nice drive by the Pacific Ocean.

I have the panoramic roof on my X5 (opens up 3/4 of the entire roof) and also on my wife's Denali. Again..ONLY used hand ful of times in summer but when we did, kids highly enjoyed the open air feeling down in the San Francisco bay.

And I had that on my old 4Runner and my wife's Acura MDX. NEVER had any issues with leak, seals, etc.

when water comes through a sunroof or whichever term you prefer, it's not the seal that's to blame - the problem is the drains aren't working. that's why the channel is an 1" deep. it's like plugging the downspouts on your house and saying the gutters leak

Huge difference between PNW & SoCal, but it's also not the 1990s.
