I have the 2 1/2 and like it but it raises the power curve which works great on the dunes but for towing or more low end I would stick to 2 1/4.. I may switch back, every day driving would be better but when I'm goofing around or at the dunes I love the bigger pipe... I may have a smaller mid pipe made to test it out to see if I like it better, if I do I'll report...

Appreciate it! I think your on the money here, my stock is 2.5" and my guess is that it doesn't need to be widened

I think the best use of money is to just change out the muffler with the loudest one you can handle...

I don't really have intentions of changing my exhaust anytime soon, but does anybody know where the best gains are for 1-2K RPM? Possibly as high as 2500? Seeing as this is both my acceleration and cruising RPMs. I never go above 2 unless I need to get somewhere quick, and even then I accelerate slowly then maintain a high constant speed.

Ah yes, thank you but that is already on my list! So no exhaust suggestions to compliment the ims? Any low range mods?

That should cover the low and mids. Tried the URD MAF calibrator yet?

Nope. No performance mods to the truck. I thought the maf was for aftermarket intakes.

Are you looking for exhaust options? Or just low rpm boosters in general?

Both, the former falling under the latter. :p

Found this. So for the 2.7L, a 2.25" pipe is about right. 2.5" for the V6 (4.0L). Notice that the note says this is for full throttle; you definitely do not want to go bigger than what is shown.

One day at work, I noticed that I parked next to a Tacoma with the V6. I measured the V6 pipe diameter (yes, I make sure it was cool first!). Same size as my I4! Both are 60 mm (just under 2-3/8"). So it's a bit small for the 4.0L and a little big for the 2.7L. I guess it's cheaper/easier for Toyota to make just one diameter pipe for all Tacomas?

Flowmaster 44 then get under the truck and cut the exhaust to dump right after the axle.

I don't quite understand the chart. If someone unknowing were to look at that they would think to get a 3.5 diameter? Where's the 4.0 fall under? Which rpm range are these for? If the v6 diameter is small already isn't that good?
Thanks for the chart but someone like me needs it spelled out!
Lord helmet mentioned maf calibrator. Don't know if he's reading but would like More explanation. And what about you ihatetacomas?

Pretty simple to understand. Since our Tacoma is a 4.0L engine, converting that to standard size: 244CID aka 244 Cubic Inch Displacement. Then look at the chart, we would fall in the 200-250 CI range and since most of us run the single piping setup we would use the 2.5 at 250 hp.

BTW I wouldn't run anything bigger then 2.5" unless you're boosted i.e; supercharger or turbo.

That takes care of the engine size. Next, which rpm range is this? Most likely more towards WOT since that is what most people are in the market for. Since our diameters are closer to 2.25, does that mean our exhausts are already tuned for low range power?

Also, could you please continue on the maf calibrator?

Yes and yes. Correct our engine exhaust piping size is ideal for the low range power. Some guys just like to change out the muffler for a less restrictive type instead. I wouldn't recommend the 2.5" piping unless you're boosted. You will feel a little lost of the low end torque. What about the maf calibrator?

You asked if I had considered it. I said I thought it was just for adjusting intakes. I figured you had something to say after that?
