So I was wondering what do you guys do to protect the paint from pin stripes when going down a tight trail?

    I found these options:

    1) Do nothing and once it gets really bad, you cut and polish the entire truck
    2) Get PPF on the fenders, a-pillar, and doors (looking at $4,000+)
    3) Get magnetic panels to attach to the body (bushbarrier.com.au/ $1,000+)
    4) DIY Magnetic Sheet and you make your own templates (15mil; 24"x50' for $100)

    Any thoughts?

    What’s PPF?
Do nothing, it’s too old to worry. Maybe try and wax her good someday.

Goat Armor doesn't sell a kit for the GX yet, but has it for the 4Runner, just under $1000 CAD after shipping and import fees.
I'm on 1) for now. Polish and wax once a year. When it gets bad in a few years I'll do Line-X Ultra on the whole truck.

The magnetic panels need to be removed, washed, and hung to dry after every trip. You'd also need to wash the vehicle immediately prior to putting them on.

Did you check out goat armor? https://goat-truckarmor.com/collections/toyota-tacoma-gen3

    I’m
not sure about the shipping to you up north there though. I had considered buying a sheet and cutting it as well. Maybe buy a roll off eBay and see how it does.

Runs about $650 for a full set. Cool idea and designs, but I have to believe it's insanely marked up. Also you have to constantly take it off and wash it. Seems like a hassle. I'll take the pin stripes at that price point and effort level lol.

Like 3JOH22A mentioned, I have a GX and the Goat Armor won't work for me. I found local a signage company that sells 15mil 24"x50' rolls for $100. I think that's the best protection/$

I think so too how marked up they are. That's why going the DIY and making my own templates is the way to go. If I were to make them, I would only put them on before heading out to the trail and leave them off the rest of the time. These companies do mention to remove the magnetic sheets once a day to wipe off any dust that may have gotten behind them.

I think it would be a fun project without putting too much money into it while at the same time protecting your paint.

IMO, the most effected areas are doors/ side panels.
I have a clear bra on the hood, A pillars, wing mirrors, and the first food of the roof after the glass.
otherwise i'm also on step 1)

Step 0 is getting a paint colour that doesn't show scratches. Cement is best colour

I just took a look at Line-X Ultra and that would definitely be the way to go. You'll never have to worry about anything.

I'm going to get a 24"x5' magnetic roll for $20 and see how well it stays on the truck.

P&P + ceramic, if anything you going to damage the body too much, PPF won't save you anyways.

You can't win. So you might as well go have fun in the trails and not worry about the pinstripes.

I'd say order a roll of vinyl wrap and wrap it yourself! It'll run you about 800-1000$ fairly easy to do but time consuming. Wrapped mine earlier in spring and its held up extremely well in our B.C trails here. Wrap is pin stripped but nothing that pierced through or rock chips. 5'x75' roll was plenty & still have a lot more left to touch up any bad spots down the road.
