Wait until the Leafs win the Cup. Then again, it'll never happen so no worries.

the people that a protesting tuition increases are stupid but the people that started the riots(who probably arent in university) are down right retarded. the increase was still lower than everwhere else in canada.

Why does it matter how it compares to anywhere else? It is not somewhere else, it is there and they don't agree with it. Therefore the protest.
I gather that you just bend over and take it when something happens you don't agree with?

because quebec is part of canada as much as they think they should get special treatment and subsidized tuition. western canada has bailed out quebec and ontario for a while now so they can have the highest tuition for all i care.

quebec has the lowest tuition in the country, half of what most of the country pays. quebec also has public services not available in the rest of the country (ie: free in vitro fertilization, $7/day daycare). quebec also receives $7-8 billion a year in equalization payments (most of which comes from Alberta). as far as I'm concerned the students are a bunch of spoiled brats and as a change of pace they should pay for something themselves. even after the increase of $275 for 5 years their tuition would still be the 3rd lowest in the country.

Everything must be kept in perspective. Labor unions get no sympathy because their pay and benefits are better than average. Quebec students get no sympathy because their tuition are lower than average.

^LOL, the rest of Canada subsidize Quebec to keep them from declaring independence.

    Meanwhile in Toronto...

pretty much. equalization has been around for since the 50's, quebec (who receives 48% of the equalization pie) has twisted their policies to maximize their intake of out of province tax dollars.
IMO the rest of Canada would be much better off without quebec.

Saskquatch11 hit the nail on the head. The reason tuition is so low in quebec is because the rest of the country is paying for it. A country wide leveling of basic services is what equalization is about, not the bastardized version that has evolved in quebec.

    BTW
In any other country in the world, Bloc politicians would be jailed for treason.

Interesting last few posts. It is becoming more clear now. I did not realize that the rest of Canada was having to foot the bill.
Sounds like Alberta should have been protesting quebecs low tuition :D
