Hey folks - About a month into my new Taco.

Well..new to me: Black 2014 Doublecab 6-speed manual V6 TRD Sport Short Bed....sheesh still getting the hang of that mouthful.

Been waiting 20 or so years for this. The dream started here:[IMG]

Now I finally I have my own shiny black beautiful sporty beast. Always wanted a truck...always wanted it to be a Toyota. Never had access to a shop, or tools so I couldn't buy an older truck & work on it.

I got into this particular Tacoma because it was certified pre-owned single owner with fairly low-milage for a used 14' (20k), and the price was right. Didn't necessarily set out looking for a manual transmission but I have owned several manuals over the years so that didn't deter me. The tacomas are known for longevity if well tended, so I plan to do everything I can to keep it maintained and lasting.

I am using this as my daily driver for a short 12 mile daily round trip commute in light traffic, but also as a utility vehicle with several trips monthly to my woodlot and cabin in the mountains about an hour from my home where I will take it onto the trails while cutting & processing firewood, so I am keen to learn about winches, bed boxes, storage systems, & utility racks.

I also plan to purchase a utility trailer for towing gear & power equipment to the cabin, but I don't yet know much about towing so there is research to be done.

Also very interested in these "Hi-tents" that sit on roof racks as I do a good deal of camping.

All said & done, I'm just very happy, proud, & excited to own a Tacoma. I am here to LEARN and share my journey! Glad to be here.

Welcome!!! I recommend draining your transmission fluid and replacing with Redline Mt-90. Our trucks need 1.8 quarts, and at $15 a quart it makes it shift smooth as butter!!! Super easy to do yourself too.

I was skeptical of all the hype but was immediately pleased with the results!

@EatSleepTacos - It's been a while since you welcomed me to the forums and recommended this transmission fluid. I got pretty busy over the summer, but now I'm ready to dig back into the swing of things. So thanks for the recommendation! - Can you talk a little bit more about why Redline Mt-90 is the specific brand needed Vs. what comes stock from the dealership? And if you know of one, direct me to a tutorial?

BTW - I've been creeping through your Lair. Real cool stuff man. Lots to aspire to.

Thanks for checking out the thread! Glad you like it.

As far as the oil goes, I went with that brand because EVERYONE here recommends it. Not sure what makes it so special, aside from it working really well in our transmissions. Just smooths everything out nicely.

As far as a tutorial, I looked but can't find the one I'm thinking of. It really is quite simple though. There are two bolts on it, a drain plug and a full plug.

You crack the fill plug, then crack the drain plug and drain all the oil out. Install a new crush washer and tighten the drain plug.

Then pump some more oil in, new crush washer and tighten the fill plug. When you get under there and look, it'll be fairly obvious which plugs these are.

Edit: looked again and found the thread.

For anyone who cares - I figured I'd post some retro-active content from FangBeast's summer.

    First Up: First Haul !!

I Snagged an epic Bolens 1669 Hydro at auction. Hauled it to my house from the auction (20 miles), then out to my cabin along with 300lbs of building supplies riding in the trailer with it (80 miles). Beast handled everything like a champ. I was actually super surprised at how little a difference there was in terms of handling or "get up and go". It felt like I was hauling almost nothing. Hey - I'll take it!
