Next Up: First Mod - Bed Risers

I noticed that the bed liner has these 4 "slots" if you will, molded into the the plastic near the wheel wells. I was't really sure what they are for, but I guessed that perhaps they are intended to be used as guides for inserting bed risers to haul sheet goods or whatever else might need to clear the wheel wells. So I made risers to fit.

I used untreated yellow pine 2x8's that I finished with several good coats of boiled linseed oil. I'm pretty sure they were 2x8's because 2x6's weren't quite wide enough, but the 2x8's were too wide so I had to chamfer them down to fit. I actually have to gripe about that. As a designer, I just cant understand the logic that went into designing these molded slots. They are wider at the top than at the base, and the edges are rounded. I'm sure there is a good reason, but I found it very irritating to work around this design to create a snug fit using standard lumber.

Anyway, I had the old cargo net from my Subaru (RIP) laying around, and I always found it to be very handy, so I wanted to find a way to incorporate it.
In the end two screws with big heads screwed half way in did the trick. Super easy.

Yay! - Now I can haul sheet goods and shove stuff in my net to keep it from rolling around.
