Did the band adjustment on the old TF727 this evening. trying to see if i could bring reverse back to life. the inside of the transmission was disturbingly clean. I did the band adjustment and replaced the filter. Was a fairly simple procedure, But doesnt seem to have fixed the reverse. Will probably look for a replacement. Looks like someone scratched up the sealing face on the pan and transmission pretty good. not sure what the history is on this there. Here is a pic of the inside if anyone is curious.

Looks like someone has been in there recently, maybe a rebuild the previous owner didn't tell you about?

Sweet. My first vehicle when I turned 16 was my Dad's 1975 Scout II.
I loved that thing. It is still in the garage but it is long passed running.
I wish I had the money and time to restore it.
He bought it a company auction. It was used as an exec vehicle and had a A\C.

Did a little work on the door this weekend. Welded the holes for the factory molding shut then filled the small divot left by them with some bondo. Will need to completely sand the door later and prime it. There a few of these holes on the main body and the other door. I also decided to fill the hole for the key tumbler. this truck with have no top on it all summer so the stereo and stuff will be contained in locked boxes, so i just decided to get rid of all locks except the ignition.

I also found a rebuilt transmission on CL for cheap money. Except it has been sitting in a garage for 6 years without ever being installed. I dropped the transmission off with a friend to have it gone though. as soon as mod day is over the bad transmission and tcase will come out. Then the engine will get pulled. The engine runs really well, but leaks. I will just go through it and clean it up and reseal everything.

In the mean time i have been chasing down some electrical demons. The truck now starts with the key switch so i removed the bypass switch and start button that the previous owner installed. while the engine is out i will remove the factory bulk head connector, install a grommet and splice the wires together for a more reliable connection.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

looks good! I like the no exterior lock idea. I am going to go topless and thinking about tube doors, once I get mine up and running.

a little update here on the past few weeks with the scout. I finished up the body work on the door. I used my new to me welder to fill the rest of the holes from the original side molding. I didnt get them bondoed and sanded yet. I did hit them with a little primer to prevent rust. I also acquired a brake booster from a later model scout made for disk brakes. The new front axle will have disk brakes on it. The brake booster had surface rust and the what paint that was there was in rough shape. I cleaned it up real good with the wire brush attachment on the angle grinder then painted it with flat black. I also scored a 4 barrel manifold from a later year scout. This should give the ol 345 a little more grunt. I have ordered a custom built quadrajet with a special altitude compensating 3rd jet to top off the 4 barrel manifold. Last and not least I climbed under the beast and dropped the old bad transmission and transfer case. I ordered up a full gasket kit for the engine and hope to get the engine out in the next couple weeks and start going through it and cleaning and replacing all the gaskets. I also borrowed a vibratory polisher to clean screws and brackets and such. it does an amazing job. the screws and such from the brake booster are in it right now.

It sure would be fun to drop $15,000 into a scout like they did on Xtreme 4x4.

I know in your first post you state you are doing ARB lockers in your axles. Have you done it yet or is that still on the to-do list? I am currently shopping around for locker options for my II. I am sticking with the stock 44 in the rear and just found a front 44 for purchase. I am leaning towards mechanical lockers just for the simple fact of durability. The air lockers seem like there could be more issues with the hose/wires getting damaged.

    Just looking for opinions, thx.

I wont be doing my major suspension work until Feb. The other option is the OX lockers. They are cable actuated or can be electric with a kit. ARBs are very popular and known to be good.

Went to the IH Sierra Fall Rallye today. Picked up some Race Proven Technology motor mounts and transmission mount. These are serious mounts and will stand up to lots of abuse.
