Damn I forgot about my Potato gun project, the gun is finished and I haven't even taken it out to shoot yet. This would have been a great weekend to shoot some shit. Me and a buddy built it with a logic controller, propane injection, red light green sequence for shooting and clear PVC tubing.

No, sorry I wish I was, I was talking to JLee the other day about going...I really want to and have way too much free time on my hands lately...I am moving that weekend...great fucking timing huh.

It's all good though you guys have a good time, take some great pictures...next time.

I'm actually building a hot water shower onboard the truck for the future, we can take hot showers from the engine block and a heat exchanger.

Umm, hate to be a killjoy and I love seeing shit explode but, you have two different types of plastic slip fittings that look like they are glued fittings, if that is clear PVC like you say and it's slipped into black ABS fittings, the glue for PVC will not hold on ABS and vice versa for the ABS glue. It may look like it holds but I wouldn't want to set off propane inside it and hold it in my hands. You may want to drive some short screws through the ABS and into the PVC to reinforce the glue joint. Small screws with pilot holes (so you don't split the plastic), about halfway down the slip joints.

I went through that whole problem when I was building it!
I have done a bunch of research building this with that in mind.
Your right, those two fittings are not suppose to go together.
However the maximum pressure with propane is around 140psi, I built the gun with some help off a potato gun forum and it has been done before and it does work.
Based on industry standards you don't mix these two types of plastic, but this setup is way below maximum pressure.

With that said, we did build the logic controller with a time delay for testing the first shots so we don't have to be next to it. That has been in the back of my mind though this build.

EDIT: I would be interested in talking to you about this issue, I did consider doing the pilot holes just for safety over time.

Good man, hate to see ya get hurt, damn what a way to go....killed by a fuckin potato gun! There is actually a glue that is made by WELD-ON for the PVC to ABS joints, I forget what number it is but it's green. Fire it and check REAL carefully for hairline cracks or slippage. The max PSI ratings are made for semi-rapid to gradual increases to max pressure, not explosive ones, explosive air would act like a fluid doing the same thing being rammed down fittings. With fluid it does what's called "hammering' where it slams into the curved portion of the fittings or at tees and it can shatter pipe at less than the max pressure because of the velocity and force by which the fluid/gas hits it. If it breaks I would go find an irrigation store and rebuild the whole thing with SCH 80 PVC and WELD-ON 711 grey glue. That will not shatter. Good luck!

    Workin on it! :D

Shit takes too long though! I'm pretty much waiting on insurance for my shop; out of 4 places I've talked to, only one has replied with a quote, and after a week when they said they'd have it the following day. :frusty:

Count me in Jerry. I'll pick up Lisa after work and head over there. Depending on traffic we'll probably get there at 9ish, just in time for the smores :)

Lucas if you wanna meet up and caravan let me know.

Also, Felipe and Steven, I have a double cab and you guys are more than welcome to ride with me on any of the trails.
