PS4 / Xbox One... Reviews in Progress

Fuck man... age means nothing. I'm 50 and I'm in the top 0.6 in Trials. It's all in knowing all the nuances and communication in the game.

 

We'll likely see some games get "upgraded" or "remastered" to take advantage of the PS5 hardware -- for a price, in many cases. Glad that Destiny isn't doing that, but then again, they don't have an upgraded engine either. I wonder how long it will take for it to feel a bit dated.

 

I've got a feeling that they will get rid of all the planets. The are already doing that because the game is bloated right now. Eventually they will get rid of everything and start with a new engine (hopefully the UnReal engine but I doubt it). But no matter what... it will be a new engine to take advantage of the new hardware.

 

No problem. I just don't get guys that push PC/Mac/Console or whatever. Have fun with what you have. There are pros/cons to each.

I was married to a girl in New Media once upon a time. I quickly learned never to start a Mac versus PC or vice versa discussion with those folks lol. People don't want to change when they have something that just works or puts out great workflow and justifiably so.

Will the PS5 support resolutions that are not 16:9? I hadn't heard that and I've never tried with the current gen systems. Sweet if they do, wider aspect ratios just mean better situational awareness. My original comment was directed at the fact that most people have no clue that their TV or monitor doesn't have HDMI 2.1 and therefore can't support 4K above 60hz or adaptive sync.

Age is 100% just an excuse lol. Reality is my marriage wouldn't survive the hours I used to put into games. I have young kids and sneaking away for even a couple of hours leads to one very unhappy mommy. I'm really interested to see what level of instant resume/replay the consoles have. Both have toted it as a feature and showed some fast game switching using the SSD as a cache, but I want to know if I can basically pause a game now by switching off the console. If so that's a big feature for me.

 

They still haven't said how that will work for the discless system though as far as I know. Something to point out, I'd only assume backwards compatibility on the disc console at launch. They dropped the discless console so fast and in surprise mode that they forgot to answer how backwards compatibility will work on the PS store if at all.

 

Companies won't change game engines on most titles. In most cases changing engines on a finished product is as challenging as building the game from the very early stages and not worth the costs unless the demand will be high.

 

Bungie has already stated that they are going to have to change the engine since its moving forward for another 2 years at minimum. How they do that? I've no idea. But they will have to change the engine which they have already stated that they are. So we'll see how that pans out.

 

If they're mid development it's pretty easy, or at least less painful. If they're full on done development though it sucks.

Lots of companies will pivot to the new Unreal engine if they were using the old one because that shouldn't be nearly as painful.

 

although I don't miss having a disc tray on my pc, unfortunately all my ps4 games were on disc so ill have to bow to their ridiculous marketing scheme and pay extra for the disc tray.

 

The only game I have on disk right now is gran turismo. But I still just want the digital version. So even if I can’t use the disk anymore and have to rebuy the game it would still be cheaper for me. Now if all your games are on disk then yeah.... that sucks.

 

I feel like if you already own the game on disc the digital version should be free, shit ive bought gta 5 three times already, would be nice to get a free upgrade every time they port it to a new console

 

If you have an issue with Xbox or PS, then go with the new console coming out in Nov.

Looks like Bungie built their own engine by updating the Halo engine to be more multi-threaded. If they did it right, they may just have to do some tweaking and update some resources to be higher-rez. Since they use a different kind of netcode, they probably didn't have a lot of choice. The system architectures of XB and PS have settled in a bit to be very PC-like, unlike the PS3.

 

I think that is one reason they are "vaulting" a lot of locations. The game is way to bloated at the moment. It's gotten to almost 100GB's in size and there are many places that no one goes to or plays those activities anymore. So they are trimming down the size of the game and bringing some new stuff in and also some old stuff from D1 (like VoG). But the engine is old and they will have to do something eventually. Even Luke Smith mentioned that in one of the reveal trailers. So there will have to be some backend maintenance to make that happen.

 

Microsoft has promised this on every game they publish for the Xbox Series X. As in every game they publish will come with a digital copy for both PC and Xbox if it is available on the other platform.

 

Xbox Series X is supposed to use a trimmed down version of DirectX Ultimate as well, which means a lot of changes to anything that was in development if they want a lower impact on frame rate from things like real time ray tracing.

Stunning disappointment is an understatement imo

 

Tried to warn everyone thinking about this game. After the leaks and the way Naughty Dog treated this entire situation I was done. Fuck Naughty Dog. How you can go from being the greatest game developer to the worst in a matter of weeks is beyond me. Spoilers aside. They fucked this game up royally.
