PS4 / Xbox One... Reviews in Progress

I honestly dont think they will drop it.... I use the one for all my media now so the speaking aspect is pretty nice. I've also used skype a few times and its pretty sweet. So really it just depends on the way you use it. The tech isnt there really to have it a staple in games, not fluid and reliable enough.. But from what Ive seen so far, it certainly has gotten a lot better.

 

Of course i am still on the fence about which console to get first, i will get both eventually. Halo and Titanfall are the only two exclusives i care about atm.

 

The kinect will not be dropped because the xbox is an entertainment console not a pure gaming console

I have just read differing opinions on the matter, i figured if enough people wanted it as an option they would make a packge without, but it is microsoft so it is hard to tell.

Not sure if its ok to post this here but figured it was the best thread for it. I have an Xbox One (Day One Edition) for sale if anyone is interested $500. New/Sealed. Just trying to get my money back.

 

Firmware would have to recoded from my understanding this.. The one shuttles some idle data to the kinect and back when it needs it again.. The kinect has its own firmware and processor plus (memory. last time i check but that was before release of the unit)

I have a one and to tell you the truth its very very half baked...

Interesting, I have only played a friends a few times. I am going to more than likely get a xbone this week, but the ps4 for some reason was also catching my attention. Just bought a house so the money for toys andf the such is thin right now.

Ok So I bought My Xbox one last night. I have to say I'm glad I waited till I had an abundance of money. I know I will be happy with my purchase in the future but right now I'm feeling a bit like i just got sucker punched. The Games are great I don't have any complaints about them yet. I guess when you stop and think about it. The Game part of the gaming system works. Its the other stuff that it can't do that I'm finding hard to swallow. I knew off the bat the USB ports didn't work for accessing additional storage and I knew there were issues with joining/creating parties. But what I didn't know and can't believe I missed was that the xbox one is unable to access DLNA Servers or shared Files on your computer. I guess I was one of the few that were excited about the "All in One" concept It sounded like they had taken what the 360 had already mastered and improved upon it. Sadly now that I'm aware of the issue and done my research it appears that nobody knows IF or when Microsoft plans on adding this functionality. Now I know I can go to my computer and push the movie or song over to the xbox but that's not an improvement if you ask me. That's a step back.

I also think the controller feels a little cheep. The Controls are fine and the ergonomics are alright but the old 360 controller felt more solid then the new one does.

Now I was going to buy one regardless and as I said in the beginning if my rant I'm sure in the future Microsoft will get all of the kinks worked out and I will be happier with it. That being said I think Microsoft needs to focus on its existing customers and set expectations for when we can expect to see the rest of our functionality be released instead of leaving us in the dark.

I did read that they are releasing an update on or around the 11th to coincide with the Titenfall Fall release. It is supposed to correct some of the party issues and some stability issues.

 

Its actually a huge update supposedly. Should fix a ton of quirks

 

Oh yeah its also supposed to fix 5.1 on the optical out

 

I understand the money thing. My personal preference is the PS4 but I wouldn't buy one right now. There just aren't any games for it. If I could only buy one system right now it would be the Xbox One specifically for Titanfall. I realize that is a short sighted view but the game is one of those games that you actually buy the system for. Much like "The Last of Us" was for the PS3.

As far as the hardware goes I personally think the PS4 has the Xbox beat (as evident of it outselling the Xbox 2 to 1). That said... the hardware does no good if there is no "software" to play on it. The only thing I have played recently is "Tomb Raider" and it is a fun game and the visuals are amazing. That said, I doubt there is a huge amount of difference between the Xbox One version and "Tomb Raider" isn't a console exclusive.

I'm glad I got both systems and there will be a few exclusives for both systems that would have made me buy both in the long run. I'm glad I've ordered Destiny for the PS4 because I believe (however slight) it will look better on it. That said, it certainly wouldn't deter me away from the Xbox One version.

My only real complaint is Kinect. It is a unneeded accessory in my opinion. Head tracking does not work in Forza (I have tried many times with no success). I can find no use for it at all. Chat functionality is hit or miss with it. I understand that the Xbox is trying to be a "all in one" media center but I don't use it that way. I use it strictly for gaming like the PS4.

My only real complaint for the PS4 is the LACK OF ANY FUCKING GAMES! There is nothing out that I "want" to play on it right now. Tomb Raider is fun but it would be just as fun on the Xbox. There will be some good games come out no doubt but as it stands now... Nothing.

At this point in time, if I were in the market and could only buy one system it would be the Xbox One only because Titanfall is that good. Between Titanfall and ESO it should keep me busy until the Beta for Destiny comes out.

^^ That ^^ is HUGE with me! Since I use the MLG surround headsets that has been a big source of contention for me. Now I just need for my chat cable to come in and the Xbox will be much better and will have addressed most of my main issues that I had with the system when I bought it.

 

What about the hard drive capacity of both? I know they both have 500gb, but that you can replace the ps4 one with a bigger one. How fast will the hard drives fill up once the libraries for each console start to grow? I guess i am asking:

1. Does each game install a part of the disc onto the drive?
2. If so, how much space is required?
