I'm an advisor at a dealer in my area and a customers truck had the rear differential leaking even though the recall didn't populate under that VIN number, so don't let the dealer tell you it doesn't apply. Have them check and confirm anyways since it may be leaking anyways and would still be covered under your truck warranty. This particular truck was here for it's 10K service. I will be torquing my differential bolts per the bulletin even though I'm under 1000 miles.

Not on the recall list but I will be checking under my truck this weekend. Since I'll be doing a early first oil change might as well check all the fluid levels.

If you haven't checked out this thread you might want to wait on your truck if you need a truck. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-possible-loss-of-control-of-vehicle.488536/

Toyota does not have these parts in stock......... They are waiting until trucks are brought in and ordering on a case by case basis, some have waited 2 months for parts, the average wait is 1 month, the dealer takes your truck and it sits unattended in the sun on a lot until the parts come in. If your leak is minor I would wait. The parts are allocated based on how long the truck has been at the dealer.

Here is the problem with the trucks not on the list, many dealers are simply re-torquing the bolts and sending you on your way, this is in direct non-compliance with the recall. The recall says any leak even if minor or seepage or weeping, requires a minimum of a new gasket and fasteners. Just because your truck is not on the list doesn't mean you don't need the same action taken

You have that wrong, at least at my dealer, if no leak/seep is found they torque the bolts per the technical instructions. If there is a leak/seep then parts need to be replaced.

My 2016, built in late 2015 in Baja is on the list. It is not leaking or howling. I would still like to know if it was filled to the correct level at the factory. Do you guys think the dealer will check it if asked during the recall? At 17k and I have the CPS recall as well, waiting to do both when they have a solution to the CPS.

If your diff isn't howling or leaking, I think I'd want to leave it alone. That's crazy, I know, but with some of the stories we're reading here...

I just had my 20,000 mile service done 2 days ago. I confirmed that my 2016 DCSB TRDOR 4x4 was not subject to the diff recall. He confirmed it No. I did tell him I noticed a very small weep at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions of the 3rd member and asked him if they would check the rear diff fluid level for me to make sure I'm fine. He said no problem and they did it. Mine was full. No problem.

I also reported the high pitched wind noise (gazoo sound) coming thru my door seals when traveling down the freeway when there is a strong crosswind. I showed him a video on my phone that I recorded of the event. That was enough proof for him. He ordered me 2 new front door seals they will install next week when they come in. My service advisor is a good guy.

Nope not wrong your dealer facility is doing it right others are simply re- torquing leaking diffs and or sending customers away

Does this look acceptable to you? A dealers dirty work
