I believe the mystery is solved. I bought the truck via CarMax in Knoxville this past October. When searching through their filters, I choose SR5 package, V6, 4 wheel drive. They shipped one in from Dulles, Virginia, SR5 stickers on the rear quarter panels etc. I did not realize until last night when I looked back through the paperwork, it is listed as an SR not SR5. Someone put the SR5 stickers on, Carmax advertised it as an SR5 and I paid for an SR5 but was actually purchasing an SR model. It has the black wheels, rear quarter panel stickers, etc. No chrome badge at the C-pillar. I feel screwed by Carmax, but I do like the truck.

Thanks for all the efforts. I'll visit Carmax today to chat about their deceptive advertising.

I would hope they would make it right, but I fear they will claim it’s water under the bridge. Maybe they’ll buy it back for what you paid and you can start looking for the trim level you wanted.

No such luck. The paperwork I signed said “SR”. Even though it had the black spoke wheels and SR5 decals on the rear quarter panels. They blamed the previous owner. Lesson learned.

That sucks man. Hold onto it a bit, get a bit of use out of it, then sell it for what a good SR goes for. Then upgrade to a nice used 4th gen.

Thanks for the thought. I'll hold onto it and wear it out. It does everything I want it to do and looks good doing it. Just a bit of "buyer beware" when out there shopping. I guess I expected a bit more from a place like CarMax.

Time to "Eat Crow". My above rant was unfounded. I looked back through my paperwork and discovered that this vehicle was indeed an SR model with an SX package. My thoughts that it was an SR-5 were wrong. Sorry Carmax, I'll shop there again.
