As PSI increases the tread footprint decreases and thus friction decreases which increases MPG.

Some extra info: My particular tires indicate max load is a little over 2,400 pounds per tire and the max tire pressure is 35psi. My GVWR is 5,500 lbs.

That's only relevant for the tires that came on the truck stock

What load range are your tires? I've got E rated (10 ply) and the sidewalls says 80 max... there's no way i'd ever put that in. I run them at 36 front/ 34 back. I'd say you'd be good some where around 32-34. If they are stock tires go by what it says in the door jam. Also, search... "chalk test".

    Do P rated 265/70/16 have a max PSI of 50 ?

Chalk tests are going to vary from vehicle to vehicle because there are many factors involved. Any extra weight to the vehicle will alter the results as well as changing to different size, brand and type of tires.

Since you are runnig 265/70R16's you could start with the 32 psi sticker rating and 5,000-10,000 miles down the road look at your tires. If they are where more on the outsides you may bump the psi up to 35 or so to help counter that, or if the center is more worn drop it down to 28 psi or so. Just depends on how drastic the wear is and what not.

I run my 255/85R16 KM2's at 50 psi (80 psi max rating) on the street when the roads are bare from snow/ice. I have lots of side tread wear from a bad alignment so I want to use up some of that center tread and the lighter rolling resistance is nice on the interstate, which although probably minimal, will give me a gain in MPG.

Edit: Forgot to add that curb weight to curb weight I am a good 1200lbs over factory. Add in the usual gear I carry on me and that is closer to 1400 lbs over.

Good catch. Without some research I can't answer that question. Also not sure if some Tacoma's come factory with LT tires...though I seem to remember seeing some new on the dealer lots. Further, I'm not sure that his door placard would give the same pressure requirements for a P vs LT tire (my OEMs are P and my door placard matches his). There's definitely more than a few ratings for same size P tires out there (XL & LI are higher pressure I think) & I believe the US either has or in the process of revamping the way it requires tire ratings to be more in line with the European standards regarding weights & pressures.

So, yea I'm clueless as far as your question goes.

People that run 50 psi must have some tough ass, kinda like the soft and easy psi myself !

I have/had 5100's on all 4 corners with an AAL in the rear. It is certainly rougher riding than with the tires at 30 psi, but I don't think it is that big of a difference.
