I just got a voice message on my phone, the local dealer made an appointment on my behalf for my next oil change. I didn't call them, they called me. I always get this right when the truck rolls 4500 out of 5000 miles. This has been happening for the last two years, on two different trucks. Last year I went on a 2,000 mile camping trip, I got a phone call the day after I got back. Every time - no matter how much or how little I drive during those months, I get the phone call, and the appointment date is always within 50 miles of dead-on accurate.

"An appointment has been made for you Feb 6th, 5 pm." I now have until Feb 6th to reach 5,000 miles on the odometer, and so far, it looks like its dead on. Again.

How do they know? Are they that good at guessing? Do they have a secret tracker installed in Entune? Are they Facebook stalking? Aliens?

Do you report your miles to your insurance carrier? Did you tell the dealership you drive a certain amount of miles per year during the purchase?

No and no. I didn't even buy the first truck at that dealer. I just showed up one day after I moved, I've been in their system ever since.

If you read the Owners Manual there is a section about data transmission from the truck.

Do you have the entune app on your phone along with the toyota app? they might be communicating if you have a dealer selected on toyotas website.

Nobody knows. It literally says in the manual that data is being recorded. No one has any idea what data or where it goes.

It's in the Owners Manual, I don't know it word for word but I do remember it saying it will not record and transmit voices or conversations

Actually I do have an entune app. I set it up with my 2016, decided it was useless, and haven't opened it until today. I see that it already has my 2018 truck in the settings, obviously it paired with it when I first used Bluetooth.

I dunno, id be both surprised and not surprised if individual dealers were granted access to Toyota's data mining.
Then again, this is the kind of dealer that has a licence plate reader hidden somewhere on the lot- by the time I pull into the bay there's a big TV hanging overhead that's already displaying "WELCOME ROCK LOBSTER. ARRIVAL TIME 5:05 PM. YOUR SERVICE ADVISOR IS CARRIE M."

Funny you say that. I read alot about people here ripping off their bed decals and dealer plate frames because no one wants to advertise for free. But technically, your truck is stamped all over the place with the Toyota trademark. Isn't that advertising as well? o_O

Many public parking facilities malls, casinos, and other places that see a lot of traffic also have plate readers on therir property.
