Sorry for the poor garage pic quality but there’s a storm outside. Just got the cooper 255s on! More picture to come.

How has your experience been so far with the ST Maxx 255s? I have 16x8 Ray10s just sitting and having trouble deciding on brand and size of tire to go with. How much rubbing have you had and what have you done to mitigate?

I love them so far. Hardly any noise (but I have always ran an aggressive tire) Great in all conditions (snow, rain, and mud) I was getting vibrations but I found out it was my needle bearing not the tires.
Zero rubbing with my 2 inch lift. I notice a little rub when I off road and air down to about 30psi but I run 42psi when daily driving and have zero issues!

Just curious why you removed the sliders?

Eventually going to do weld on ones.
The bolt on ones had a little play when pressure was applied (installed correctly) web with the hi lift, when the truck left the ground the slider would shift up towards the cab until the pressure was released.

The more and more I see the 255s the more I like them. Make the truck look more athletic

I love them. I have had every size from 30s-35s on my older trucks and this truck, and the 255 won me over

Can you provide a comparison with your previous tire and the 255s now?

Im on the fence about going 285 vs 255.

    On my tacoma

I started off with 265s BFG and really liked them but wanted to go with something s little bigger since I had the room after the lift.

Switched to 285s BFG and was on the fence about them because of the rubbing (even with a 2.5 lift) and I did lose mpg (not much but noticed it) I didn’t really want to do a body chop. Then after a snow storm I was constantly putting my truck in 4wd because the bfg couldn’t get me from A to B with snow on the road. So I wanted to switch to a different brand and read up on the 255s Coopers and figured I would give it a shot.

Since I couldn’t be happier. Night and day difference in snow and clay out here in Nevada. Gained my mpg and power back (same as the 265s) no rubbing, unless I air down to about 25 and do heavy off-roading and still it’s very minor rubbing. About the same noise would compare it to a soft whistle. Which can only be heard with windows down. But I love the noise of a meaty tire.

Other Benefits I found out of the 255 are that I can fit a spare in the original location. Can’t fit a 285
There are slightly taller then the 285s.
Breaks away from the 285 trend that every loves and 70% do just for looks.

Things I found were the 285 might be “better”. When changing lanes at higher speeds the 285 feels as if you have more control. 255s have a floating feeling. Don’t know if that’s because of brand or size tho. And more options in 285.

Haha No, I really appreciate the detailed response. By far the most helpful. Lot of people said they like it but didn’t specify pros or cons

    Thanks!

Looks like I’m going 255s then. I was thinking coopers but also heard good things about the Toyo MTs. I also think it’s a little taller too

Only reason I didn’t want to go with MTs is to save the 30 bucks a tire. I’m just cheap haha. But I hear great things about them and they are alittle bigger then the coopers.

Are you lifting the truck or sticking with stock suspension? I'll lift at some point, but it would be nice to get some extra clearance now, and continue to run them when the lift is on

Great info! I was worried about the mpg loss with the 285s, and to be honest, it's more about looks with the 285s. I think the 255s look clean, and if they give more clearance, can be put on on a stock setup, and don't require CMC or changing the spare location, I'm in

Yes I will be lifting the truck. But I did see a thread on here where some people were running them on stock suspension (on road) with no issues.

Yeah... the on-road aspect is what worries me right now since I do plenty of offroading. I don't think I've seen a lot of stock guys run them off road too often

Yea it’s a great tire size! Just wish it came in more options.
Here’s an awesome thread on them, if you haven’t seen it already.
