Does anyone have these puddle lights and the oem bed lights also installed ? And issues if any ?
Thinking of trying to do them both at the same time

My 2020 came with both port installed. Absolutely zero issues.

Need some help. Started installing this kit tonight and had some issues with the connections into the harness in the a pillar. I have a 2017 TRD sport and I’m not sure if I’m reading the instructions incorrectly but it doesn’t seem like my connector matches the instructions. The wires seem to have a miscolored over the years and I see several yellow wires and several “bluish” wires. I’ve tried a couple combinations with no luck. Can anyone help clarify which wires I should tap?5FF14467-BAA9-471D-8109-01DB8DF23A17.jpg86B92001-45FF-4F8E-A0F4-F1AB1131CC65.jpgD628E6D6-1033-4E7C-ACE8-992B9F4752D9.jpg

Yup I went with the numbers as well , just make sure the orientation is correct when looking at the numbers
In all your pics it seems like your are tapping the wire on the wrong side.

The wrong side sounds correct. You need to tap the lower plug, the current flowes upward so the hot side is the lower part of the plug using this pic on the right.

Fellas, it's a tap. Above or below makes no difference. Also, all drawings of Toyota connectors are meant to be "read" as one looks into the connector, not the wire side.

True, it makes no difference "if" the plug connectors are connected, but was that the case here?

My humble opinion is to not do two electrical mods at the same time. Do one, then test it until you're satisfied with it. If a problem occurs, it'll be twice as hard to trouble shoot otherwise.

I appreciate the help! So I made that change to the taps at the connector in the a pillar and now the floor well lights come on with ignition only and the puddle lights do not come on at all. I think I have these other connections correct but please double check me. These are the connections in the kick panel. 2FCAB1B1-8343-44C3-A661-B2563BE01CF4.jpgD5BDC0BF-D958-4251-BF07-95B523045F50.jpg

It’s hard to tell from that pic, but it seems like it’s the same issue as before , you are tapping #5 or #6 wire instead of #1.
Also Iam assuming your dome lights did turn on when you approached the truck before you did the puddle light mod correct ?

I thought these diagrams were viewed from the pin side so #1 on the pin side would be top right on the wire side. I don’t recall if my dome light would come on as I approached. It obviously comes on when i unlock or open the door, so the foot well lights nor puddle lights are coming on when the dome light is on. However the footwell lights will come on now if I start the truck.

upload_2021-8-7_14-3-59.jpg Edited : hold on I’ll take a look at my connections and double check

Seems like you tapped into the right wire , I have the lights and that works for me

On the right side pic the pins are shown from the connection side. Just make sure that the connection clip orientation is at the top.
Notice the numbers 1&9 are flipped.
And it is a view of the bottom connector.
The pic on the left color's are incorrect but the orientation is correct.

I have the 2017 Sport also and when I did this mod the wire colors to tap into were yellow and blue. When I walk up to the drivers door the dome lights will come on with the new puddle lights and the foot well lights.

The ignition does not have to be on.

I didn't tap into any wires in the foot well, just the A pillar.

So finally got the puddle lights and footwell lights working. I found this seemingly updated instruction sheet for the kit.

    http://toyotaparts.sparkstoyota.com/install/00016-00069-2021-tacoma.pdf

I also found that I had to replace the red t taps in the a pillar, on the ground, and on the newly specified gray wire with the black t taps that came with the kit but were not called for in the instructions. I found the red t taps were too large for the small gauge wires, they were not cutting through the insulation and making contact with the wire. The black have a smaller notch and work with those wires.

So those are working but in the process somehow knocked out power circuit that is usually hot with the truck off…i.e. the door locks, internal and external lights, key fob. The truck will still go to the mode if you press the start button 1 time and the radio comes on, and then it will go to full acc mode with the second push and start with the brake being held. In acc mode and with the ign on everything seems to work properly, it’s just when the truck is off. I haven’t been able to find a blown fuse. So scratching my head a bit.
