x2. Its about the only thing you can use when you awaken with eyes close, sit up, point at the noise, shoot, and still count on hitting something.

In an apartment though you gotta be hella fuggin careful about just squeezing rounds off from anything. Walls are too gawd darn thin, and you'll kill your neighbor, then the crook will know you have a gun and lift your blu-ray player while sprinting out the door. You'll go to prison for manslaughter, you're wife will get bored cuz your gone to prison, she won't have a blu ray player to watch while your there so she'll start to get restless. Your kid will eventually learn to call someone else daddy, someone who has a blu-ray player and ain't in prison. So, just keep plenty of close combat weapons available.

I had my AR in hand while I went to see who it was at my door. Since i couldent see them from my bathroom window I peeked around the corner to look out the front door window and could see his face pretty well. I had the advantage cause I knew where he was and he didnt know where I was at and the house was dark inside.
if someone was already IN the house then YES my wife and I would have hidden behind the bed and I would have had my gun aimed at the BR door.

Which is why hollow points and shotguns are just about the limit for penetrations reasons. Rifles and anything above you run the risk of over penetrations. You are ultimately responsible for that bullet and where it goes from the time you pull the trigger to when it stops.

Nobody wants to get shot. Mostly, if you point any gun at someone, they're gonna either say how sorry they are, and how many mistakes they've made, or they're not going to say sh!t and run away as fast as they can. Pointing something as scary looking as an AR at someone is no exception. Those things look damn scary, and most everybody is going to jet quick. Truly psychotic people will need to get shot; most others won't eff around after that.

Why's that? Have you ever pointed a gun at someone? What did they do? Have you ever had a gun pointed at you? How did you feel?

Damn man that is scary...good thing you had the gun so you could protect your wife (and yourself). People are so weird. I guess its always best to avoid confrontation but you should ran out there with your AR in your skibbies and been like WTF DO YOU WANT?? AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  I don't fuck with guys in the underwear holding an AR...its clearly a sign that the motherfucker isn't wrapped to tight

ive pointed a gun at several people...even put my finger on the trigger a couple of times

ive never had a gun pointed at me

there are people out there who will react the way you described...but many times a situation involving a gun is happening so fast and everyone is experiencing tunnel vision...sometimes those with the gun on them do not even know there is a gun involved

dope heads wont care...and theyre probably not going to run away just at the sight of a gun

lol, thats pretty much what I just said. When that person has 'tunnel vision' what do you think is causing it? They are not exactly the model of rational thinking at that point; they are thinking using basic instinctual fears of protecting their life. In that circumstance, unless you are absolutely nuts, or you've got something bigger/better/faster than your opponents weapon, you're thinking of how to get the hell away from that place.

If it was me I would have handled things just the way it was posted in that article. Make sure to announce yourself first. Tell them to GTFO you have a gun. If they're dumb enough to ignore a warning and the sound of you pumping a shot gun then it's game on haha. I think some of the laws are a little too loose, everyone mentions the Texas one if someone just steps foot in your yard that shouldn't give you the right to immediately shoot them but if someone is in your residence and not heeding your warning that you will fire then I agree that you have every right to defend yourself. Luckily for me, the police station is literally 4 blocks away and we have very good response times.

I had a gun pointed at me while I was cruising one weekend with my cousin in his brand new Cougar...I think I was 17 and he was 18. Some wannabe piece of gangster shit flashed his revolver at me...I was shocked! The he started to lick the barrel and try to be a bad ass...fucking loser! This is when I lived in Indiana...imagine that. This happens to me in a shit splat town...I move near one of the largest cities in the U.S (Phoenix) and not one fuckin problem.....figures

tunnel vision may be cause by other things other than a gun...like the adrenaline of breaking into a house...or a fight...or grabbing your wifes purse and taking off running...

most encounters that make you feel like you should draw a weapon are more than likely going to involve someone on some sort of drugs...they arent going to care and they arent going to run away screaming and crying like you described

the last guy that i pointed a weapon at attempted to jump out of a moving car and come walking back towards me (car was stolen too btw)

he got drawn down on...he was given loud verbal commands...he continued to walk until another officer tackled him and put him in handcuffs

most of your criminals will not be that overtaken by fear of a firearm...theres a good chance that they have one too and may draw you into a firefight

I grew up in Washington DC where everybody played with guns, so I've seen one once or twice. Never had the opportunity, aside from the times mentioned in this posting to point one at somebody else. I can speak from experience how I felt, and how I've seen others react in similar situations though.

I still don't agree. I've been around the public service community for quite some time, and know and have known many cops. Out of the probably 60 or so officers I know personally, maybe 20 have drawn their firearm, probably 10 more than one time in their career, and I think three have actually fired their weapon; one at a dog, 2 at individuals, (and one was an MP3 in a swat situation). When people see guns, they freak out. Adrenaline is involved in most criminal situations, agreed. The situation changes completely when a gun enters the picture. Either the situation is resolved completely, (i.e. crook chills out, lays down, doesn't want to bleed), or, the ultimate occurrence happens, and someone gets really hurt. The adrenaline of stealing someones purse goes completely by the wayside when the fear of losing one's life enters the picture.

I agree completely that drugs are an extremely complicating factor to the picture, and they make things very unpredictable. But, I'd say you've been a cop too long if you think that all criminals are on drugs. :)
