Hey guys I am wanting to rent a tractor with a tiller for my land and I need to pull it. They said it weighs 4800 pounds total. Is it safe to pull this about 15 miles from the rental place. Will I risk damaging my truck. I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma double cab 4x4 trd sport with towing package. 4.0 v6. Also if this is ok what's the best way to pull it, like for example is pulling it in just standard drive ok on the transmission?

4800lbs is still well below your max load, especially with tow package. Don’t put it in overdrive, put it in the “4” position. You’ll be fine

Is the 4800 lbs the tractor and tiller only or the entire weight including the trailer? If the trailer weight isn't included, then you'll probably be around max weight assuming it's on a steel car trailer. Rentals usually have surge brakes so that part is ok but if you're at max weight and never towed before, I personally would borrow, rent, etc, a bigger truck. Some rental shops will deliver so that could be an option.

This. What is the TOTAL tow weight including the trailer?

You also need to pay attention to tongue weight. This truck should be close to 600lbs. Dont exceed that.

This will be a tough job if you have to towing experience. Especially if the trailer is over 10-12ft.

Screw renting a truck if you have little experience. Get a friend with towing experience to join you and help guide you through the nuances.

It shouldn't be a problem. Especially for 15 miles. I might prefer a bigger truck for a cross country trip.
