Within the next few months I'll be pulling apart the majority of the dash in my 06 to do a few jobs:
    • Replace lower center dash piece with gen 2.5 dual cig lighters/switch slots
    • Change gauge cluster bulb colors
    • Replace problematic air vent tube
Is there anything else I should look at doing while I have everything pulled apart? Any recommendations for preventative maintenance or nice-to-have upgrades to do before getting everything back together?

Don't know if it matters to you, but when I took the dash out of my 3rd gen, I attached two layers of denim batting under the dash. Said different, on the other side of the top flat part of the dash and it reduced engine noise and made longer highway trips nicer.

Inspect/replace your cabin air filter. Check the connectors at the blower motor and the A/C controls for any overheating (brown/black marks). Change every bulb you come across to LED.

Change the gauge cluster plastic cover if yours is scratched. It's like a $20 part.

Clean out the vents that are for defrost. alot of stuff gets in there and may jam the doors.

What type of batting did you use? the thicker stuff meant for house walls or was it thinner than that?

I didn't like both power ports (cig lighter) being the same as I always had an adapter plugged into one of them. I swapped one of them for built in USB and USB-C ports. It also has a LED battery monitor on it. I also considered running separate "always on" wiring directly from the battery to one of the ports, which would also increase the available power instead of the limited 120w combined power available.

If he's going that far might as well replace the evaporator too.
