You would not believe how strong the smallest of roots can be in holding back a truck 2x the size of a taco.
    Been there done that.
Chop as many roots as you can. Its not a bulldozer.

shovel pick and axe should do the job in about 20 minutes or so... Or look in your owners manual in the "Stump removal section"

I pulled out the stump of a Japanese maple last summer. No problems.

Edit: I'll note that I took time to chop roots then dug down under the stump and put the chain down under as well as around. Came right out smooth.

I have done about a dozen stumps with my 3rd gen. About 4 of them were similar size. As others have said, it will help big time if you can dig a bit and chop some roots. Also, DO NOT use a chain. If the chain slips or god for bid breaks, that's a lot of flying metal to do damage. Use a heavy tow strap or Bubba Rope. Truck likely can do it as long as you can get good traction.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I used a hi-lift jack to pull out a stump. Worked out well.

You need leverage if you are going to pull it out in the vertical position if you are going to use truck to pull in the horizontal position. I've seen old wheels, large logs (size of the height of hitch point) or you can rig up a thick piece of wood at 45 degrees but would need an anchor point at the bottom end.

Did it with my first gen and the stump went air born smashing into my tail gate. Take it slow and it will pull it out no problem.

    Stock.
I'd recommend using a couple of cable dampeners in case the strap or a heavy blanket if the chain breaks in half.
