I use to pull an 18' Ranger with an 03. It pulled fine. Stopping was the problem. Older trailer, no trailer brakes. I had to downshift for quick stops. My 05 Tacoma does it all without any problems.

Yeah, it is funny how most boat owners think you need a full size vehicle to tow an average boat

I'm going to Sumerset KY on Saturday to pick up my new one (Four Winns 205 Sundowner) and then its probably to Cumberland to test it out. But anytime you go out let me know. I'm always up for boating, I cannot wait to be on the water again!

What a coincidence, my company I work for designed that t-shirt you have as an Avatar. Sorry to be off topic, thought it was cool to see that though.

Damn that's a big boat! Have you ever pulled it out on a steeper ramp?

NO lol. but I would try. i agree on that ramp having very little incline but still you know. I did notice one thing. due to the little space we had I could back the ramp down very far so we had to use a lot of power on the boat to get it to the roller on the trailer. when my buddy was powering up, my brakes were no match. it was making my truck roll foward, then again that was only with the ebrake on. I imagine it would of made a pretty big difference with my foot on the brake, but who knows.

Yeah it seems like most every "non-Tacoma" driver under estimate these little 1st gen. Toyotas & just write them off as "just another under powered, tin foil pile of Jap Crap" Which as anyone who either owns a Tacoma or has spent any time at all behind the wheel of one is utter nonsense, now I don't have a boat to pull , but I did throw a recovery strap around a boulder that is probably at least 1/3 the size of my truck & I'd bet just as heavy, it was blocking a trail we were trying to go up, it wasn't round at all but flat on the bottom (meaning that this fucker didn't roll, it slid) Anyway after pulling it I was pretty impressed with the ease that I was able to move it.... Oh What A Feeling !!:D:D

Ok I just bought my new boat which is a 97 Four Winns 205 Sundowner. I was told the boat itself is a little over 4000lbs and then you add the weight of the trailer. I was shocked at how well my truck towed it. Yeah I did get 9 mpg on the 3 hour trip home from the marina but it did great. Even in the hills of southern KY. I could def feel it back there but the suspension didn't bottom out and the truck handled the trailer very well. I really was thinking it wasnt going to have the power but as soon as it downshifted in 3rd going up a hill it held/increased my speed... I'm very very happy with how it did....

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
I'm anxious to see how mine does with the 19' DIXIE inboard ski boat and my 3.4L Taco with 35" MTR's & stock gears. ~ Luckly the lake & river is close @ about 8 miles each non hwy.

Still even with the 35's it has gotta be better then when the last truck broke down and I towed the 19' Glasstron to the lake behind a Suzuki Samuria on 33's with stock gears ~ Talk about no brakes... Plan your stops a week in advance.

New boat... 4400 lbs dry w/o trailer... Took it out today on the river and was very happy with how well it performed. Great out of the hole, and very responsive. Ran about 50mph. The Tacoma knew it was back there, got 9 mpg on the way home from Sumerset KY pulling it. But overall I was really surprised at how well it towed the trailer. It wasn't sagging in the back, had no trouble stopping even though the trailer brakes dont work. I was very satisfied with the performance. I didn't even have to put it in 4x4 to get it up the ramp.
