I bought a wrecked 2012 Taco that got hit from the side hard enough to break the left rear wheel.

I got what looked like a good axle from a wrecking yard and installed it, replacing the one on the side that got hit, and after a few miles there is a pulsating hum (maybe the start of a grind?) at low speeds.

So three questions... Anybody know from the description if this sounds like a bad wheel bearing?

And... is there a possibility that it is an internal bearing or damage to the carrier?

    Any other ideas?

Does the sound go away when making turns

does it sound like it coming from one corner of the truck or can you hear it in the middle and in your seat

No vibrations at all. Just a low humming noise at about thirty mph more or less. Vooom...vooom...vooom... kind of steady and slow. Hard to describe.

When my wheel bearings were going bad on the left side, it started out as more of a hum. And making a right turn on the freeway it would go away, try listening for that.

As for a failing bearing in the third member my only experiences were a hum/ low vibrating at around 60mph felt in the seat/center of truck

just take a listen while taking corners, and you could also Jack up the truck and spin all 4 tires to listen for a bad wheel bearing individually also for any play side to side movement when you grab the tire

Check for play in the center support bearing and ujoints
