longtime lurker here...looking for a decent '03 or '04 Tacoma...read the buyer's guide thread already. I see from time to time nice tacos up for sale in my area, but I need a no-sh1t, accurate answer on the frame issues: Even tho Toyota "treated" the frame (coated it with goo) can it still be re-inspected and replaced with the 14 year window? And knowing a thing or 2 about limited slip diffs, how much is it typically to overhaul one, and do the Taco limited slips wear out as fast, as say, a Jeep or Ford diff?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jess

Do not have an answer to your question. I love my 2003 extra cab--BUT if i was going to purchase again--Would have gotten the "double CAB"
Much easier to put stuff in the rear of the cab.
    Good luck!!!!!!
    No problems w/frame on mine!

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
The frame, if the owner submitted it for warranty on time, will be replaced if it rusts. Iirc, it is transferable between owners. I wouldn't worry about the frame except to insure the previous owner got the warranty in time.

As for the limited diff questions, the first gens didn't have one. if you get a TRD, it will come with an electronically locking rear differential. I've never heard of any issues with the gears myself, but the locking actuator tends to need cleaning and rebuilding after heavy use off road. It's pretty easy and there are more than a few write ups on this.
