I appreciate this but CA CHP would not let this fly... I have yet to register it but California is super strict with salvaged vehicle registrations. I wonder if....

Wow seems like a huge win. Surprised there's no damage to the shell either.

Salvage values are tricky. In my mind, you knock off a third of the price to get the AFTER REPAIRED VALUE because it is salvaged. So on a 40K truck you would be about $26,400 after repairs. For someone that agrees with that you essentially paid after repair value on something that needed repair. Now the camper is worth something so that works in your favor.

Now if the plan is to keep for 6, 8, 10 years then the difference between salvage and new start to come together..

South Dakota allows out of state individuals register vehicles there and pretty sure salvage is not a problem. There are many services that can help with the registration process.

    Can't believe...
It didn't flatten the whole side of the truck.
It didn't push the mirror into the door.
It didn't crush the corner of the roof/door in.
    It didn't crush the windshield.
It didn't crush or crack the topper on the back.

    AMAZING!!

Must of been some really soft sand it rolled over into. Hell if your feeling REALLY lucky, take out the head liner and push up on the dent from inside. Maybe it pops back out??

They never do. A girl I work with was t boned with her Jeep. The insurance paid to have it fixed. The vehicle was worth 28k from insurance and they paid 21k to get it fixed... WTF?

We bought a salvaged title car for my sons first car no so long ago and it runs great, low miles and cheap. We probaywont be able to sell but we’ll drive to the ground for cheap. And only liability insurance

Looks like it rolled into some mud, probably why the damage was so light. Insurance likes to write off vehicles that have there airbags deployed. Definitely worth it for 25k.

Update: Car is at 100% now. I had to replace the rear view mirror, rear ABS harness, both curtain airbags, reset the SRS module and all my fault codes and check engine lights went away. Roof is still bent but here's updated photos.

All that's left is to register it.

    Here’s the breakdown.

    $26250 - Winning Bid
    $2065.50 - Auction Fees
    $350 - Bid and Delivery
    $60 - Seat Belt
    $1050 - Curtain Airbags
    $289.37 - Rear View Mirror
    $45 - SRS Module Reset
$167.61 - ABS Speed Sensor Harness
    $100 - TRD Grill
    $2336.03 - Sales Tax

    $32,713.51

@SlavaTheShrimp You should drop by your local painless sent removal place and just see what they think about that dent in the top. They may just tell you it be 500 bucks and few hours of work. Worth the drive over...

Otherwise hell of a buy! Well done sir!

I contacted a few individuals and all of them said it’s too much work and a bucket of bondo or replacing the roof would be a better option.

    appreciate the suggestion!

thats the “this isn’t insurance work so we don’t want to do it,” explanation.

It’s a roof, it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can pull 25% with a cheap DIY paintless kit. And probably 60% by removing the headliner and popping them.

You will end up pulling some spots too far, or pushing a bit too much so it will be wavy, but you can get it decent on your own.

That’s why I’m slapping a prinsu over it and calling it a day.

I was thinking of trying to DIY it myself because why not. I might try a paint less repair kit from Amazon or something. Any recommendations?

How bad was the ABS harness to replace. Apparently with driving less during covid some squirrels ate through mine. I have a harness on the way but haven't found a great instruction for replacing it. Go pretty simple?

I would get an oil filter cutter and check your filter at every oil change for metal and keep an eye out for bearing wear.
