Purchased steering wheel from 05 4runner

Just purchased a leather steering wheel from a 4runner.
I think it will work well. Just wondering if the airbag is interchangeable. Seems like it would be.
How to verify such things? Waiting for it to be shipped.

that airbag is not compatible unfortunately. You’ll need an airbag with a single connector. There is a great write up on the steering wheel swap on here somewhere. I believe early first gen Tundras have a direct swap airbag that will fit that wheel, and plug into your taco.

 

I think my airbag should fit that steering wheel as well. Just will not match in color. Until I find a black cover first gen tundra black airbag

canceled the steering wheel from ebay. Due to airbag not matching. Will wait for another steering wheel with matching airbag. I just want black steering wheel

 

Think a 96-02 4runner one would work.

 

Nah, first gen taco wheel is the same as the third gen Runner and his pic is of a 4th Gen 4Runner wheel. Airbags aren’t shaped a little different between those generations. The wheel and cruise stalk is PnP though.

 

I ended up just ordering a leather kit that I simply will stitch onto the steering wheel for now.
My issue with the steering wheel is just the smell. Previous owner was a smoker. I used to be a smoker but not for many years. Did not realize how much smoke seeps into the interiors.

I replaced most of the interior. Just steering wheel is all thats left.

 

I hear you on that. I smoked for 7 years, but having quit 2014, I can’t stand the smell now.

 

I thought his goal was a black steering wheel? The 3rd gen 4 runner had a identical steering wheel to the first gen tacoma but in black right?

 

Ahhh, I see what you meant now. I thought you were saying that the third gen airbag would work with the 4th Gen steering wheel in his picture. Yes, I agree, third gen 4Runner and airbag combo is a direct swap into first gen tacos.

 

Yes black and fresh smell.

 

A 2001ish Rav4 wheel and airbag is plug and play to the 01+ tacos. I had mine leather wrapped.

did you use the cruise control from your old steering wheel or purchased it with rav4 wheel. I noticed that same steering wheels come from Celica, MR2 and many other vehicles of that era
But not many have the cruise control shifter
